twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Ok, hands up, who saw that coming yesterday eh? Well the shock waves have subsided somewhat and the magnitude of the news is starting to sink in. On the field it was a matter of the more things change, the more they stay the same, as they ushered in the Rob Antony era picking up right where they left off, by losing. 1-0 Rob, pretty much a must win tonight now that Jimmy has found his pad of pink slips. Not going to do another TR post op for the Game Thread, we have enough of those in the forums Let's get right down to business. Things to think about. 1. Media guides, who knew these were the blueprint for successfully running an MLB franchise? Unfortunately the Twins media guide now contains false information on the organisational structure and JP is feverishly trying to contact everyone with a copy to cross TR's name off. Just in case someone out there is trying to model themselves after the Twins (ha ha, I know), we don't want to to mislead them. 2. Cleaning out offices. Never had to do it myself, hope I don't have to, until I retire at least. Yesterday must have been busy for Terry, what with contacting the unemployment office and trying to round up boxes at local Cub food stores to put his stuff in. Classy move by the Pohlads to let him go while the team was on the road, would have been awkward for maintenance to change the nameplate on the door while he was still there. 3. New beginnings and fresh starts, I like them, I hope the Pohlads eventually will to. The big move is done, don't be afraid to see it through and keep going in that different direction, it's exciting.................I hope. 4. The Tigers, for God's sake can we beat this team just once please!! 5. Terry Ryan. Other than a 6 year span with the Mets, Terry was a lifelong Twin. While there will always be disagreements on the relative success and failure of his time with the team, there is no disputing he was a dedicated and loyal member of the Twins for a very long time, I appreciate that. Thanks Terry, best of luck to ya! Lineups. Tigers 1. Ian Kinsler ® 2B2. Cameron Maybin ® CF3. Miguel Cabrera ® 1B4. Victor Martinez (S) DH5. Nick Castellanos ® 3B6. Justin Upton ® LF7. Mike Aviles ® RF8. James McCann ® C9. Jose Iglesias ® SSSP. Anibel Sanchez ® Twins 1. Eduardo Nunez ® SS2. Robbie Grossman (S) LF3. Joe Mauer (L) 1B4. Brian Dozier ® 2B5. Miguel Sano ® 3B6. Max Kepler (L) RF7. Kennys Vargas (S) DH8. Kurt Suzuki ® C9. Byron Buxton ® CF SP. Tommy Milone (L).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I call BS on the lineups, there is no Dan San there.....other than that, thanks for the intro!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Walkin' papers... You know, a guy gets fired. "Jeesh, poor guy, well they gave him his walking papers today." Did you ever get any walking papers? Seriously? Believe me, in my life I got fired a lot of times. You can tell... Never got any walking papers. Never got a pink slip either. You know what I would get? A guy would come over to my desk and say "GET THE F*** OUTTA HERE!" - George Carlin

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I've never been fired. And with tenure, it's difficult to fire me now. It could happen, but not easily and not without monetary repercussions.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 monetary repercussions. Now there's something that's never entered my mind!

wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I once got laid off the day after Thanksgiving. My reward was getting thrown onto a roof in Detroit Lakes framing in the middle of January. Of course, I got my current office job when it started to warm up.
