TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME, TALK ME OFF OF THE WALL!

Ah, the ol' Twin's pitchers' anthem:

Take me out of the ballgame, take me out to the bar.

Buy me some whiskey and cracker jacks,

I don't think that we'll ever come back.

So it's root, root, root for a rain out

If we don't play we can't lose!

So it's 1, 2 or 3 o'clock and we lost the game!

So NOW he pinch hits for a catcher, late in a game, when it doesn't matter?

sigh.....

Lucky Asst GM Gardy didn't see that happen. Disaster waiting to happen doing that.

Did I not just hear CJ was eliminating the toys? :(.

Yeah

I assume the decision came about this way:

Board of Director #6: Whoa... Wait A Sec... What's this expenditure?

Cracker Jack President: Toys... Prizes... We put one in every box.

Board of Director #3: What kind of Toys... Prizes?

Cracker Jack President: It varies... Whistles... Dice... Little Mugs or Pigs or Trolls that can go on the end of necklace... Stuff like that.

Board of Director #9: It says here... 15 Billion?

Cracker Jack President: Yeah... Those prizes have cost us 15 Billion.

Board of Director #1: Do you mind stepping out of the room for a second.

Remember that one time when Michael Tonkin was the absolute worst thing that happened to the pen?

I wish we had six more of him.

I'll trade you one Trevor Plouffe for six Brian Duensings.

Tonkin may not be perfect, but he has some upside, which is a rarity here. Let him pitch more, he has some stuff, and it will show the more comfortable he gets.

Our luck Gardy will be the next GM, and then he will make himself the manager to keep things like this from happening in the future.  There is no hire like a gardenHIRE.

TIVO catch up! Dick says in some ways Arcia and Rosario are the same player? I need to mull this.....

Is it really because they were too expensive? Or because Twins fans at TF were intentionally swallowing them in mass protest/suicide?

The '82 twins were 9-14 on May 1. They then went on a 5-36 tear and were 14-50 on June 15.

So yes, it can get worse. Much worse.

They were 3-26 in may.

The 1982 Twins were 48-52 in the last 100 games. If I had a time machine I'd much rather watch that team than this one.

Why do all the other teams make it look so easy to score runs.

We need to go out and score like 18 in a game and loosen up.

Hey, that's not fair! He had just come off a phenomenal season where he set the all-time k/bb ratio. Players don't just have career years and then regress back to what they've always been.

Hmmm. When was Joe Mauer's MVP year again?

the difference is, Joe's normal years were still very awesome, just not AS awesome as his MVP year.  Not so much with Hughes.

Interesting question. Myself, I've never spent even half that.

This gets my vote for post of the night. Good delivery, understated, well done. It almost makes me believe that you have had occasions where you spent, oh, $25mm or so on a given night "back in the day."

Which, if you adjust for inflation...

After reading this game thread, I've noticed that a lot of the regular posters really have away with words.

Concur.

But it begs the question...

"What makes a poster regular?"

And some of us irregular posters get away with words, which can be fun too...

Speaking of which, sorry i was AWOL for another game. Did i miss anything exciting?

2009, no?

A month late to the party, but he took it out on the poor baseball by knocking 'em out of the yard at a significantly increased rate...

The Braves are 8-24 and the Twins are 8-25, officially making the Twins the worst team in baseball. The Twins have officially hit rock bottom.

On the positive, the Twins are only 7 wins behind the Tigers and 8 wins behind the Royals and Indians. If the Twins get hot, it's still possible to finish in second place in the ALCD.

As bad as the Twins have been so far this season, I don't think panicking is going to do any good. And for those of you who want to hold a fire sale, there's plenty of season left for players to build their trade value. I don't think it's a good idea to sell low.
