I live in Chicago so I see and hear alot about the Sox.  The Sox don't have the look of a team capable of passing the Twins.    Every time they creep toward .500, they slide back.   Nor does anyone in this town care since everyone has Cubs fever.   Cleveland isnt passing them either.

Uh, no. It's REALLY HARD to be so incompetent that you fall behind three teams in less than two months.

Famous. Last. Words.

Don't look, but they are 4 games out in the loss column from last place.

So, if they are that incompetent (your words,) should they fire Ryan, St. Peter and the rest of the Front Office?

Isn't it clear by now that should happen regardless?

Not according to a huge contingent of Twins fans, many on TD.

Twins play mostly divisional games in Sept, I think that helps more than hurts them.

Hopefully they get so hot within the division they gotta shave their buts and walk backwards in to the wind to cool down!

It's not famous last words, it's common sense and watching a ton of baseball over the years.

Just as it's *really hard* to pass three teams and pick up a Wild Card spot in less than two months, it's *really hard* to lose the same amount of ground in two months.

The Twins just spent two weeks in a tailspin and stand 5.5 games above the last place team in the ALC.

Doesn't really matter. There are no prizes for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place. I'd rather see them play some young players to get a better picture of what they face in 2016, and who will make next year's 40 man roster.

I agree they are safe from Cleveland, but didn't they just get passed by three teams in less than two weeks?

I'm not really sure what this means but I think I like it

Just had a quick look at the schedule:  Houston (twice), Baltimore, Yankees, Tampa, Texas, Angels  and some division games including 4 with KC.

Not an easy schedule by any means.

Quick edit: 24 games with teams with <.500 and 29 games with teams >.500 left

If the Twins weren't in the saddest division in baseball I'd say yes.

The division as a whole is 3 games over .500. The saddest division in baseball is the NL East at 45 games below .500. The second worst is the AL West at -2 so it's not even close.

I could see the case for the NL East, but KC is bouying the AL Central. I don't think there's another division that has four terrible teams.

Right now, he would have to pass 2 teams to make the wild card:  Toronto, Angels, Baltimore.  When was the last team we had sole posses of the #2 wild card seat?  August 2nd?

So, in less than a week, 2 teams have passed us? And Texas is right on our heels.

Texas tied us on Wednesday, and took a half-game lead on us Thursday, before we reclaimed a half-game lead on them last night.

Ah, okay. I missed Texas passing the Twins. I know they were tied for a day, didn't realize the Rangers had a brief lead.

The AL Central doesn't have any terrible teams. It has one very good one and four that are about average or slightly below.

A quick count (and I didn't take off my shoes) we re now 8-20 since the All Star game. Anyone who says we are not capable of reaching last place cannot be giving us as much credit as we deserve. The good news is that we are up to the 16th draft pick and rising quite fast.

We are only 3.5 games up on last place Cleveland.  Who just took 2 of 3 from us.

And there are still more than 50 games left, we are playing horrible ball, and our remaining schedule is rough.Last place could definitely happen.

On August 2nd, we had sole possession of the 2nd WC spot.

Today, August 9th, 4 teams are ahead of us in the 2nd WC race.

One week.

Well, let's put it this way; we are closer to last place in our division (3.5 games) than we are to the last Wild Card spot (4 games.) With the worst projected rest of season winning percentage in the AL, and living up to that projection for a decent stretch now.

One thing I ponder is what would the actual difference be if the FO made some more trades at the deadline? But more importantly and realistically, what if the FO just made the simple moves available in the system of; Berrios and May to pitch in the rotation, taking Pelfrey and Milnone out, demote and promote the weakest links of the bullpen while bringing up the best minor league options until you find the right ones, bring up Arcia to platoon vs RH's.

What is more negligent of the FO, not making the trades or not making the moves of putting your best talent in the best spots of the MLB club to help you win? The fact that Berrios' call up has not been announced yet signals that the FO either thinks this club just isn't good enough to challenge even with him in the rotation, or, that they just can't get out of their own way of blundering this opportunity to compete this year. I would be in hiding right now if I were TR. Just way too many moves that aren't being made that could plausibly help this team.

Without the proper moves being made, it is very possible that the Twins win only 20 more games this year.

Beginning of July I said I would be ecstatic for us to end up with 75 or more wins.  I was called a cynic due to our record at the time.I just looked at the talent level and the schedule and said 75 wins would make me giddy. Was that really cynical?
