I did not see this coming. Especially with Rojas going on the IL

I suppose if he’s ever going to get through waivers, this is the time.

Wow! This is shocking. He won't clear waivers.

I wonder if something went on behind the scenes. As others said, the timing is odd given the injuries to the staff.

The Twins designated SWR for assignment this morning, calling RP John Klein up in a corresponding move.

Woods Richardson was designated for assignment after he posted a 0-7 record and 7.74 ERA in 47⅔ innings this season. If he clears waivers it's likely he would be sent to the Saints.

I do think the Twins should have moved him to the bullpen because I don't think he'll clear waivers. Maybe the Twins have a trade they're trying to pull off?

There are some teams who are going to look at his results the past couple years and conclude he's at least worth checking out, I would think.

Here's a link to the article on MLBTR.

Wow, maybe they already have another team that wants him and that’ll become apparent soon. Otherwise I’m surprised, he will get snatched up even though he hasn’t pitched that well.

Why would you give up on a 25 year old who was decent for two years? And keep old guys who haven't been good ever? WTF is going on with this club?

I agree with this. Still, SWR has put the team into a bad  position with his performance this year . you can't continue to start him and he doesn't profile as a good reliever.  Transitioning to reliever for someone without a dominant pitch or 2 will probably take some time.

We'll see how the move turns out, but I say at least a little bit of credit goes to Zoll for apparently being more decisive than the prior regime.

I assume the Twins thought that having him on the MLB club was unsustainable and that the only possible way to move forward was to get him to AAA.
Then, based on his recent performances thought that if he’s ever going to clear waivers, this is when it would happen.

We’ll see.

Part of me thinks “of course someone is going to claim him” but then another part of me thinks “who’s actually going to roster him.” It’s not like the Twins are some upper echelon club and he was tanking us. The list of teams in May who can roster a guy like this is pretty small.

DFA'ing a 25 year old pitcher with potential, while keeping 4AAA players like Outman MLB strike out king,  two catchers who cannot hit a lick in Caratini and Jackson, hanging onto MLB roster a second basemen in Keaschall who makes unforced, unfocused errors on defense. Starting 3 players who are utility players at best and Old by MLB standards in Kriedler, Gray, and Arcia. Twins franchise is a giant S show being run by a fraternity of front office and managerial staff that have proven to be non-comtenders or winners. Twins are the used bubble gum franchise being chewed again of MLB

Drafts and trades have been huge busts for 7 years. Twins are still stuck with Pohlads as owners. Not a lot of fun in Twinsville. Hope they can turn it around. Good luck to SWR, hope your next team  and you get it figured out.

I bet the A's or Blue Jays claim him.

Every single person you listed is a hitter. They have nothing to do with each other

So the hitters inability to score runs or play average defense has nothing to do with pitching? I would argue the starting pitching has been adequate as has the bullpen at times. Twins poor defense, errors and lack clutch hitting is contributing as much to effects on pitching on losses as anything else.. The catching  and receiving especially has an effect on starting pitching. You are right though, that has nothing to do with SWR pitching poorly out of the rotation. Maybe they will get a lottery ticket in the DFA exchange. Not sure why team is only carrying 38 on 40 man roster.

You cannot get rid of one of those hitters to keep Simeon on the roster. They're at the 13 pitcher max.
