Anecdotally and by the eye test I would have agreed.  The advanced defensive stats don't though.  BRef's advanced defensive stats LOVE Solano at 1st base (17 runs saved per year).  They show Gallo as merely above average (1 run saved per year).

Gallo has a better reach, and a little more experience at the position.  However Solano has the range of a middle infielder and has more lateral quickness.  Due his decades of playing infield he might read the ball off the bat a bit better than Gallo, who was mostly an outfielder in his younger days.  Solano can't reach the occasional too-high throw, but boy he can really dig out the low ones.

Interesting.  Maybe I am just remembering the errors Solano has made at 1st.  Though Fangraphs seem to support Solano being pretty underwhelming at 1st with negative marks across the board.  Though Solano is a positive at each other infield position he has played.

Yes.

At least i'm pretty sure it is the opening number in South Pacific...

Er... perhaps not opening?

Sorry. Been a while since i saw a production.

I guess i'm not always good with numbers.

Anyway, thanks Mr. The Dastardly for bringing up the show.

"Cockeyed optimist" somehow seems applicable.

We are at that stage of the season where you have to win series' and you have to beat up on teams with very little to play for but pride and next year's contract. Those basement teams can give you fits (as Twins learned against KC...a most improbable 3 game thrashing)

Put your best lineup out there and win every game you can.

Circus Boy update: Motor City Kitties on top of the Guards, 3-1, halfway through the 6th frame.

CBU analysis: Given those two teams trajectories recently, I'm not sure who to pull for.

Seriously

I'm hoping for a split and a Twins win to drop the majic number by 2 today

Concur. Some here celebrate a Twins W with a Blizzard, but I much prefer a split...a BANANA split!!

Twins have lost 17 one run ballgames.  Imagine (woulda, coulda, shoulda) winning 1/2 of those losses or at least 1/3 of those and our lead in Central is a double digits and not much fan angst

Checking scores just now I hadn’t realized that the Yankees are sporting a 5-game losing streak that has dropped them below.500 at 60-61. I think seeing that is the highlight of my day.

Repeat of earlier quiz from different thread:

When was the last time the NYY finished a season below .500?
