In a season in which our Minnesota Twins have shown maddening flaws, instilling feelings of doubt in many throughout Twins territory, we find ourselves once again discussing whether or not the current front office and/or manager deserve another chance to turn the organization around. The procedure of replacing them has two halves. Dismissing them is the simple half, and many have called for it. However, identifying and hiring a worthy replacement(s) is the other half—the difficult half. For this thread, I ask the following questions.

  1. How hot should the seats of the front office and/or the manager be?
  2. What are the qualifications of a worthy replacement(s) for the front office and/or manager should those currently in charge be dismissed? Describe them.
  3. Are there any other items to note that are relevant to this discussion?

First I will take over the lead role, then I would hire @chpettit19 @Major League Ready. I respect their opinions, takes, knowledge on baseball and business, even though I have had big time disagreements most of the time I have come away with more knowledge than I started with. For the rest of the TD contributors send your resume there are so many smart people (too many to list) on here it seems like a good place to start the hiring process.

Lets go and get this organization turned around into a winner!

I voted for "warming up"...even though it should be much hotter than that. I really don't expect anything to happen...it's just not the way this ownership does things. I'd bet Rocco is here, along with his entire coaching staff, until the end of the season. After that...who knows? No way that that Falvey and Levine are let go either. If by some incredible twist Rocco is let go, they'd put Tingler in as interim...which probably accomplishes nothing.

I'm about ready to support a change. I'm disappointed no real changes were made on the off day, but perhaps waiting until the team gets home on Monday might be a better time to make changes.

Their seat should be piping hot--if the Twins once again miss the playoffs, Falvinelli should be gone.  Making the playoffs 3 out of 7 seasons with an 0-6 W/L in those appearances is unacceptable.

That said, my guess is their seat is actually room temperature, and barring some complete and total meltdown in the next 3 months, the Baseball Ops Brain Trust at 1 Twins Way will be the same next year as it was this year.

Thanks for the kind words! The sentiment goes both ways, for sure. I actually think our disagreements would be a massive plus for our reign at the top. Just know that when things start going downhill I'm telling everyone all the ideas that didn't work out were yours! 🤣

The team is underperforming, but as for hot seat I will say mildly warm.  You are mid-season.  Realistically I say thinking this team would win 90 games before the season would be optimistic.  The hardest part of their schedule is behind them.  If they end the season 2 games under .500 I would heat up that seat under everyone dramatically.  As for the current moment, there is a lot of baseball to be played.

Well there's almost certainly no way to replace the front office midseason unless you're just going to promote from within. As for replacing everyone in the offseason, I'm on board with that. But my fear is that these things tend to pendulum, and I 100% do NOT want the organization to think they have to go with 'old school' hires. The failure isn't implementing modern baseball within the organization, it's a failure to do it as well or better than the other 29 teams.

As for the manager, he could be replaced midseason, that happens with varying degrees of success all the time. Some times to great success. But I don't think a reasonable replacement is already in house. And bringing an outside hire in midseason sounds like a disaster, especially if the front office is on the hot seat. Not that I'd want either here for more than the end of the year, but Paul Molitor and Ron Gardenhire are still Twins-tangent enough that they'd have enough familiarity to make a smoother transition. Plus it would be a good amount of fan service I'm sure ownership is desperate for (maybe not TD fan service, but certainly casual fans who like the good ol' days). Obviously, neither are ideal and they were already behind on the times when they were originally dismissed, so bringing either in would really just be a dart throw trying to create the missing spark.

Though I would say that Ron Gardenhire's best skill was getting the young players to buy into the system while somehow simultaneously forcing them into the leadership spotlight. I'm not sure if that was something he was trying to do, and it was usually done out of necessity because the team didn't spend on free agent veterans back then, but it regularly worked and it was why he succeeded with young guys when Tom Kelly didn't. (Don't kill me, I still love TK). And that's something this club needs to happen ASAP.

Last off-season I felt a change at the top should be on the table, and a good season in 2023 (after two bad ones) was a must.  If their 5-year planning horizon involves the word "rebuild" in any form or synonym, then I want them out.  They had one rebuild and I'm not interested in them leading another.

It's not that FalVine are incompetent, far from it, but there are always assistants in other organizations who can be given a chance and failure should not be accepted for long periods.

Another losing season in 2023 and IMO they're basically on a path to running the franchise into the ground.

Next, please.

Start with Dave St. Peter.

I'd fire them now, given they refuse to change this roster. I expect them to fire the hitting coach as a scapegoat at some point .. but for them to keep their jobs. I expect them to get cute in the draft, and pass on the best players again. I'm done with them. Done.

I haven't heard of any hot dog or pretzel shortages at the concessions stands, so I think he's doing his job okay.  He can stay, as long as the PR department remembers to put a muzzle on him.

Firing them now would risk whichever internal replacement getting and keeping the job if the team turns the corner, regardless if that person had anything to do with it.

I think I’d rather let them all sink rather than appoint a captain who’ll steer the ship on the same course.

Yeah, I mean you’d have to REALLY care about the uniform design.

Unfortunately Jimmy and St. Peter make this decision, and they'll go to Falvine with a **** eating grin on their faces to ask them what they should do, "because we aren't baseball people and we know it".

Don't forget the Pohlads will look heavily at the P&Ls, along with the baseball stats.  Guess which carries more weight.
