Ironically he replaces Shaun Anderson, recently claimed on the waiver wire by Texas and spending two whole weeks in their minors. Maybe the Twins can claim him back again!

Claimed by BAL this time.

Congratulations to ex-Twins All-Stars, including Kyle Gibson and Eduardo Escobar, both making their first All-Star game when over the age of 30. Add Lance Lynn, Ryan Pressly and Liam Hendriks, each making their second All-Star team.

In other news, Rene Rivera was DFAed by the Cleveland team and former Twin Chip Hale is going from third base coach for the Tigers to head coach of the Arizona Wildcats college baseball team.

Given our tattered pitching, Gibson’s success is particularly painful.

They dealt both Lynn and Pressly. But they simply let Gibson go.
Then signed Happ and Shoemaker.

Jake Reed called up by the Dodgers. this will be his first MLB action after 8 years in the minors.

Congrats to Jake! Hope he has a great first impression to stick around a little while.

An interesting path for Jake Reed — he signed a minor league deal with the Angels over the winter, but he struggled so much in his first month that he was released on June 2. Then picked up by the Dodgers, and a month later is on his way to the show.

Reed’s wife is also preparing to play softball in the Olympics later this month too!

Just great. We will probably see him next in the A.L. Division series holding one run leads in the 7th

Wisler update on the Rays… 11 appearances 10.2 IP, 0.84 ERA, 14:2 K:BB

Old friend Zack Granite retires at 28. The dream is over for a former TD member’s proclamation that Granite is better than Buxton after less than 100 MLB PAs in 2017.

This is why I never make predictions, particularly where it concerns the future.

Thanks for sharing! I wanted to see if he gave credit to the Twins for turning him around and he did!

”I’ve also learned a lot more about how the body works in the last couple of years, the biomechanics stuff. [Twins pitching coach] Wes Johnson was really good with it in Minnesota. I’ve learned about what they call ‘the hinge,’ which is a big key for me to use my legs properly.”

Who’s the pitching equivalent of @Parker Hagemanaround here to write about the hinge?

In the 20+ years I’ve been online with Twins fans, I’ve heard so many stupid statements made but the Granite/Buxton thing may top them all.

That's the hip hinge. Getting pitchers to hinge (bend) at the hip is very vogue right now.

One way to get that feel is if you are doing squats in the proper form (with the knees behind the toes). As pitchers gather, they bend a bit at the waist/hip and corkscrew into the back hip/upper leg. Their upper half will be able to stack behind their leg. With a proper hinge pattern, they can maintain that ground force through the entire foot as they drive home, utilizing all the leg muscles rather than becoming quad dominate (and more rotational in the back leg).

Some pitchers/athletes are much better at this movement pattern than others. Some are naturally able to move that way while others will need a lot of training/side work in order to be able execute it.

Does that give you a better idea of how that works?

This is excellent. Thanks for explaining the concept!

Yankees called up Ryan LaMarre today.

Quote

Ryan LaMarre delivered a pinch-hit, RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning on Wednesday, lifting the Yankees to a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Phillies.

LaMarre came off the bench to lift a Ranger Suárez offering off the right-field wall to end the contest. The well-traveled 32-year-old outfielder has two hits in three at-bats for the Yankees over the last week.

The swap will come as a surprise to many, given the Rays’ place in the standings and last night’s acquisition of Nelson Cruz, but it serves as another reminder that in today’s game, many clubs can’t be simply boxed into strict “buyer” or “seller” categories.

Hill, 41, has pitched to a 3.87 ERA through 95 1/3 innings so far in 2021, but he’s also struggled rather considerably since mid-June. In his past seven starts, he’s tallied just 33 1/3 innings and yielded 20 runs on 34 hits and 16 walks. Seven of those hits have left the yard, and Hill’s 28 strikeouts (19.3 percent) in that time represent a pretty pronounced decline. Overall, he’s sitting on a 5.40 ERA and 5.25 SIERA since June 12.

This seems like another off-the-wall move from the Rays, but I think they're making a prudent move getting away from a starter that they think is close to collapsing. They should be able to replace him just fine with their pitching gurus, and I wonder if they will find a new project to fix up for their rotation.

Yep. Ronald Torreyes, 27, has been the Phillies' starting SS since mid-May. He's hitting a solid .280 with 4 HR and 24RBI and has established himself as a legitimate every-day player in Philly.

Eduardo Escobar is with the Brewers. Guess the White Sox lost out.

Good :)

I still really like Esco, and can cheer him on with the Brew Crew ... would've been difficult had he landed on the South Side

Lots of people lost jobs. Let's look at a couple of winners. Andrew Romaine, who left after a spring training invite, is back in the Cubs locker room. Brooks Raley returns from COVID, and Ian Krol, designated by the Tigers, was resigned by them.

The Phillies cut loose Brandon Kintzler. Jake Reed and Sean Poppen were designated for assignment by the Rays. The Yankees had enough of Ryan LaMarre and sent him packing. Lewin Diaz was sent to the minors by the Marlins.

As mentioned above, Eddie Rosario goes to Atlanta. Kyle Gibson joins the Phillies. And John Curtiss is traded to the Brewers.

Tyler Austin went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a HR for Team USA in their 8-1 win over Israel.

Austin has been referred to as "former Yankees 1st baseman" in most articles about the game, even though most of his MLB games have come wearing uniforms other than the NYY pinstripes. Most recently he played in 2019 with San Fran and Milwaukee.

Austin is currently under contract with the Yokohama BayStars in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.

Blaine Hardy is back in the majors with the Brewers. You may remember that he was signed by Minnesota but underwent Tommy John surgery when he came up lame in spring training.
