USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 According to Jon Heyman, Mn Twins players voted not to play tonight in response to current events.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Saw that coming a mile away. Meanwhile, Seattle and San Diego are playing two games.
shortround81 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Warm up the bus. A legion of Twins fans who are "done with the BS" are grabbing their coats.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 Seems that pretty much everyone besides teams that did it yesterday or had a previously scheduled double header are sitting tonight out.

T_J Provisional Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 So give them a loss due to forfeit. No reason not to play.
Diesel Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Not something that I’d personally do but its their decision to make, which I’ll respect.
Bandit34 Provisional Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 So give them a loss due to forfeit. No reason not to play.I agree with this. They would be making a sacrifice for their beliefs. I guess it would depend on the Tigers. If they don't want to play, you can't really have both teams take a loss I guess. It probably should go down as a non-game then for the teams. Definitely should not be made up in any wise.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Not sure if you’ve noticed, but there are some pretty important, dare I say historical events going on in the United States right now. Players in all sports are using their power to send a message. Good for them. I can survive a night without them entertaining the masses.

Serious question--what message are they sending, and what do they realistically and quantifiably hope to achieve?

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Just so people know. I'm in the zoom press conference, got the press release and will ikely make an article too. So, expect that.

Players in all sports are using their power to send a message. Good for them. I can survive a night without them entertaining the masses. The game continued through 2 World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, the LA and Watts riots, 9/11 and several other "historical events". Professional athletes consider themselves too important these days. They are men getting paid to play kids games. If they want to use their "power" to send a message, then do like Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Stan Musial, Pat Tillman, Jimmy Stewart, Audie Murphy and many others did, be proactive and go fight for your cause. Today's athletes can't even adhere to simple rules (Plesac & Clevinger) or become what they supposedly stand against (Montrzel Harrell). And then there's Bubba Wallace.... Play ball and lets forget about 2020 for a few hours
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 If 2020 has shown me anything, it's that, while I missed baseball from april-july, I found plenty of other things to do to fill the void. And as much as I love the game, it really wasn't all that bad. Developed some new hobbies. I don't know why it's such an absurd notion to expect to tune into a ball game and have 3 hours devoid of politics and preaching. Don't we have enough politics thrown at us from every direction, every day? Sports are ENTERTAINMENT, and I don't consume things that fail to entertain me. These athletes, and sports in general, are not essential to my living a happy life. God bless them for taking a stand, but if sports are going to be the next platform to succumb to the social justice/cause movement, I may be out. At least when the twins stink again
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I just read the A's players statement, and it's just a bunch of platitudes. If these players are trying to use their position of power to impact change, how about presenting a solution instead of just regurgitating the problems in an unoriginal statement?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 *****Moderator Note***** Keep this civil and on topic. Do not demean those that support or disagree with this decision. The Twins and Tigers both decided to sit out today to protest; if that bothers or pleases you to the degree that you can't resist from belittling them, other posters or now public figures, please refrain from posting.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 So much thinly veiled racism in this thread that I’m embarrassed for the entire state of Minnesota. The thread is locked. If you don’t like the Twins’ decision because you believe players should stay in their place on social issues, Twins Daily is not the site to voice that opinion.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 So... I'm off the hook for writing a game thread intro? I am going to use some of my newly found free time reading up on current events that lead to me having free time. It is the least i can do. Thanks all for being a community i an turn to in trying times.
