Graterol up by September?

Makes sense.

Add him to the 40 in August. An option won’t be used as long as he isn’t returned to the minors for 20 days.

He needs to be added to the 40 this winter anyway. Give him a spot before September.

If he pitches well in the upper minors I can see them adding him.  Personally I think he is better suited to a relief role anyway.  He throws hard and while he can maintain it the fact he had a shoulder issue this year worries me.  Bullpen role would be less stress on the shoulder, he has good stuff and we need bullpen help. Seems like a good match to me.

I'd be really excited to see this.

There's a deadline for adding players to be eligible for the postseason, right? Like a typical September callup probably wouldn't be?

Bold statements from Antony. I'm glad to hear it. My biggest worry has been Graterol's health. Doesn't sound like he has any concerns. Hope he can make it.

Yeah, I want to see how his rehab goes ... is he done with his rehab stint yet?

Concur. I also think he's destined for the bullpen. Might as well use the bullets in that electric arm up in Minnesota.

I can see him adjusting to the majors out of the bullpen this September, but the Twins will need starting pitchers next year and he is still at the top of the pitching prospects.

Trades for injured relievers not-withstanding, the pitching staff has been unreasonably healthy the last two years. I don't know if it's due to excellent training and conditioning, improved technique and mechanics, luck or magic elixirs, but if we're worried about the health of young arms, Minnesota might be the best place for them.

If they're relying on someone who hasn't pitched more than 102 innings in a season to be in the starting rotation we have problems. It's time to admit and plan on him being a bullpen arm.

Agreed...in 2020, anyway. Maybe at some point he's healthy enough, long enough, to start stretching him out with spot starts, etc...and logging some innings...and can be transformed into a regular piece of a major-league starting rotation. But 2020 seems beyond optimistic for that.

My impression from the interview was that they very much view him internally as a SP, but any major league use this year would likely be from the bullpen.

This is the kind of move I would endorse. Why not try it? No sense running out slugs that have extremely hittable stuff when you are vying for a playoff spot and have the best lineup here you've had in years. Use all your bullets. They wouldn't trade any of them, so let's use them to our advantage somehow this season yet.

How about now, September may be too late. Let this be the last time Kohl Stewart is up.

There's a little thing called an injury rehab assignment that he's not done with yet.

In 2018 there were only 74 starters who through over 150 innings. If you're expecting  him to come in and start 30 games and throw 190+ innings I agree you'd be disappointed.

If there are people expecting him to throw close to 150 innings one year after throwing maybe 60 innings? You're also going to be disappointed.

I believe the deal is that he would have to be added to the 25-man by Aug 31, unless he is replacing someone on the IL.

Someone will correct me if I didn’t get it right.

He only needs to be on the 40 man roster by August 31st.

And even players added later can get a league waiver if they're replacing an injured player, so long as they were in the organization by August 31st.

As promised. Thanks for the correction.
