As a fan I appreciate a player going all out and playing hard but in this situation it just isn't very smart. I understand that is who he is, but someone needs to sit him down and explain to him that constantly playing with reckless abandon and putting his health and well being in jeopardy is not good for him, his family or his team. Certainly injuries will happen, players get hit by pitches and foul balls off their legs etc. but choosing to run FULL speed into a wall to MAYBE make an out is just not a good decision. Hopefully as he matures he will learn to make better ones for his sake, his families sake and his teams sake.

Completely fair assessment in every way.

Sorry Bucky I dissed you in the game thread already, but watch some Puckett tapes, work hard, but don't kill yourself...you're on the team already. Do you think Kepler or Gonzalez are gonna smash those pretty faces into the wall every day? Get well soon.

So, question one:

Why on earth would his agent let him sign a contract like that given his history?

Question two: with that kind of bonus structure in play (up to $8 mil per year) where do you set his base pay?

Now, question three: Do you think Buxton will accept a heavily incentive laden contract?

I don’t because some team will roll the dice and guarantee him the boatload. I just hope it isn’t this team.

Good thing I'm not a GM, but hopefully, $8M in bonuses for games played (plus other incentives, like Gold Gloves, MVP votes, etc. are hopefully helpful incentives to stick with the Twins---- A real Win-Win for both sides).

Since he has largely solved his previous problems at the plate, just his presence in ball games has made an enormous difference in the outcomes of games. The team is playing around a .700 clip with him in the lineup.... and around .333 when he's not. Get er done in the offseason, FalVine.

Arraez is clearly the starting second baseman.

Not so clear tonight. Apparently, Rocco wants him to start chanting his Inner Marwin.

It’s getting really tired for Twins fans to hear about Byron Buxton and his ridiculous self-inflicted injuries.  It’s just not that important to make a spectacular catch in the 4th inning of game 102 of the season.  Every time he goes out, the Twins managers and teammates claim that he’s the most important part of their offense and defense. (even when that’s clearly untrue) So from just a team morale standpoint, it only makes sense to keep him in the game at all costs.  You’d think that someone within the Twins organization would have sat him down and explained the difference between playing hard and playing smart.  And that with 400 games in the big leagues, he would’ve figured that out by now.  Especially since that’s 400 out of a possible 700. Meaning, he’s missed almost as many games as he’s played.  Superlatives such as absurd, ludicrous, and ridiculous come to mind.  Imagine if you were a Tom Cruise style bartender, and you cut yourself throwing liquor bottles around the bar 50% of the time you showed off.  Yeah, when you do the behind the head catch and pour, it wows the crowd, but when the bottle breaks over your head, and you’re out for 3 1/2 weeks it kind of defeats the point.

Just catch the ball when it’s catchable. Your already fast enough to get to a lot of balls that might otherwise fall in play.  Work on taking walks, and getting on base more, and focus on your stealing bases. (especially third base) Worry about making incredible game saving plays when you get into the postseason. Or maybe not even then, maybe just in game 6 or 7 of the World Series since that’s the only time the payoff is ever worth the risk.   Or is all that too obvious to make sense…?

No chance.

If everybody is healthy before September it either comes down to having Arraez up or having 8 BP arms. I think the Twins need the 8 BP arms more than Arraez.

I really wish the Twins had Davis right now. The dude was raking in AAA and the Twins have open spots on the 40 man so they could've added him, but we traded him for...yeah.

The Twins opted to keep Cave and trade Davis, and they've had room to add Davis for a few weeks now and didn't. It seems they are thinking Cave will rebound.

It does stink that Raley, Rooker, and Wade are all on the IL... but when they get healthy (by 2020) there's probably not room for Davis on the 40 man.

it still is an interesting "What If?"----- if----- the Buxton injury had happened before Wednesday, would the Twins have given Davis a shot for 10 days.... and given up on making the trade for Dyson?

I just think it was strange the Twins didn't even give him a chance this year. They tried Cave over and over and he never really had it, but they don't try the guy who is destroying AAA even once? For all we know he could have continued his hot hitting with the Twins. Never had the opportunity to see. Even with all the outfield injuries.

A prospect has more trade value when not yet on anybody's 40-man roster, even if he will need to be added in the off-season. The Giants can do with him as they please for the rest of 2019, affecting no other player, now that they have him. I think that flexibility has to be taken into account on decisions like that.

Not that I put a whole lot of stock in this, but at the bottom of the lineups on cbs sportsline, they have an injury report. It says Buxton is expected to return 9/02...

Based on what Bremer said, it looks to be almost dead on accurate. And that’s assuming he doesn’t hurt himself on the rehab assignment.

Although some things are not controllable, many things are. Staying on the field is an ability. It’s probably the most important ability great players have. Buxton doesn’t have it.

Actual question that sounds like a joke. Can we add several more inches of padding to Target Field fences? Buck is such an enormous investment. Self preservation is an instinct. some receivers go over the middle and make contested catches, some don't. I don't think you can tell Buxton to not run into fences. He's hitting the walls because his wall awareness doesn't match his speed and defensive ability. Spacial awareness is an innate trait.

I'm confident that Gonzalez will come out of his funk. Buxton's injury is unfortunate and from the standpoint of replacing him, he is the hardest player to replace on the current Twins team. What I mean by that convoluted sentence is that Buxton provides premium defense and blazing game-changing speed. No one else on the team provides those elements.

It is really good that the Twins have the depth--Gonzalez, Adrianza and hopefully soon, Astudillo, as well as the ability of Arraez to play multiple positions.

Andre Dawson lost years from his career due to an inadequate outfield wall at his home ballpark:

We need to be smart enough to recognize that we need not embrace the specific actions, just because we embrace those values.

We all make adjustments as a matter of survival. This one thing thing right here I can do without. He's made attempts that are extremely low percentage plays. It almost seems like he was taught (not through explicit direction) that wall collisions = effort and we want to see effort.

This is his fifth season and he's played in over 100 games only once. This should concern him. Either he takes more of an interest in self-preservation or his career will be short

I think the Twins will plan to have Arraez playing a lot in the playoffs.  Thus, he will be on the roster come August 31.  If they need to go back to 7 relievers for a day or week, they will do so.  After September 1, they can have the bullpen full of guys yet this year.

The only way I don't see Arraez playing a lot of second base in the play offs is if Schoop should get hot, really hot, come mid-September.

I suspect giving the Giants Cave wasn't an option.  I expect they wanted Davis badly and had little interest in Cave.

Every time Buxton is not in a game and Kepler or Cave or whomever doesn't make a grab in CF and you say "Buxton would have caught that" Remember, his athleticism and speed comes with a price. You can't have it both ways. Risk/Reward. You can't take aggressiveness away from an alpha athlete. Get well soon Buck

I was thinking the invisible fence and collar might work. :P

100% fair and correct. He's not going to mean much as a part time player who hits .250 and gets on base 30% of the time
