Buxton to IL, again?

100% fair and correct. He's not going to mean much as a part time player who hits .250 and gets on base 30% of the time

He has meant a lot this year. I think we would be chasing the Indians without him.

Every time Buxton is not in a game and Kepler or Cave or whomever doesn't make a grab in CF and you say "Buxton would have caught that" Remember, his athleticism and speed comes with a price. You can't have it both ways. Risk/Reward. You can't take aggressiveness away from an alpha athlete. Get well soon Buck

What do you mean "you can't have it both ways"?

Many a great outfielder was able to stay healthy and play 150+ games. He can provide excellent defense without being so reckless. A lot great outfielders made things look effortless while Buxton is like Evel Kenevil

John spoke about correcting a specific action. Are you saying HR should just keep slamming into walls because that falls under the category of aggressive play?

I think the Twins will plan to have Arraez playing a lot in the playoffs. Thus, he will be on the roster come August 31. If they need to go back to 7 relievers for a day or week, they will do so. After September 1, they can have the bullpen full of guys yet this year.

The only way I don't see Arraez playing a lot of second base in the play offs is if Schoop should get hot, really hot, come mid-September.

In the “sucks to be you” category, Schoop currently has an OPS (.758) almost 20 points higher than his career rate (.740).

But, of course, it’s not like Wally Pipp had been playing poorly before getting hit in the head...

Anyone on the 40-man roster on August 31st is eligible for inclusion on the 25-man postseason rosters (which can be changed each round too). So it doesn't matter who is up or down on that day, as long as they are on the 40.

(Technically, you can even get an exception to add non-40-man guys who are in the org on August 31st, if a 40-man guy is injured.)

Not that I expect Arraez to be sent down anytime soon!

I laugh at anyone who talks about a long term extension with Buxton. There's no way you can do it.

I think he'll learn with time. But why would you extend a player who hasn't been through arbitration yet anyway? Way too soon.

Buxton was through arbitration once already, last winter.

Fair point. But I still think it's too early.

At the bigger picture, I think his injury history is a concern for sure. But I also think it's entirely possible that a 26 year old just hasn't figured it out yet. I sure hadn't at that age.

I get "hasn't figured it out yet" but we are talking about a guy whose game is centered on speed AND is often injured. The timeline for players like this isn't very long

We can't keep going with that angle.
