Cleveland got better tonight. They've got pitching (even aside from Salazar coming back, they have guys like Plutko, Plesac, etc. They needed offense. They got two good-hitting outfielders and a solid LHP.

Cincinnati to an ace.

And San Diego added a top 30-40 prospect to add to their elite farm system without giving up any of their core.

Cleveland just got the HR power they have needed for a while now.  I sure hope our pitching is good enough to match those guys as their lineup just improved a lot.

I agree but it still baffles me that the Indians and I am mostly guessing other teams also had such under performing outfielders and Denard Span is still sitting at home.    At least tonight's games went according to script.    Indians playing tougher team and loses.  Twins playing easier team and wins.   Hopefully this trend continues for a while.

Is Franmil Reyes any good, because I'm wondering why are the Padres shipping him and a 22 year old pitching prospect to Cleveland so that they can get a single prospect from Cincy? Is this Trammel guy pretty good?

I don't think this is a bad move for Cleveland, not sure if 2 months of Puig will do them much good, but if Reyes develops they'll win the trade. And I guess the Reds are 'going for it' in 2020? Huh... weird.

Consider: The Dodgers got rid of Puig and less than a year later, he's in Cleveland.

Sort of a last gasp desperation move by Cleveland, far as I'm concerned.

Looking at Puig's numbers, they're okay but not stellar.

We shall see what happens.

concur.

They most certainly got better in 2019 tonight.

Your move, Falvine.

so San Diego gives up a guy with 27 HRs this year and 43 in 577 career at bats and a pitching prospect for an OF prospect.  How does this help them.  The prospect is in AA and young for the league meaning he wont likely be up till next season towards the end of the season.

You nailed it, Seth. Reyes and Puig are serious upgrades where Cleveland needed them. You can trade from you roster if you improve positions of need. It's risky but I think it was worth it for them.

It helps them because they're building for the future, they aren't trying to win this year.

They now have 5 of the top 50 prospects in baseball (pipeline).

Puig has been borderline excellent the past two months, with an OPS north of .930. Reyes is really good but the Padres have a ton of players that need to be on the 40 man roster. They also have a surplus of major league-ready OF.

The Reds can now go with Castillo, Bauer and Gray as their front three next year. That's a serious start to the rotation. They have several developing good SP that will fill out the rest. They still need OF. Maybe the Twins can score Lorenzen or Iglesias with a deal that includes Jaylin Davis and others.

Well if we end up with Thor and a reliever without giving up anyone of consequence on the current 25 man roster....Then we will improve more than Cleveland where it counts the most.

To quote Chief, you acquire good talent when you can. Worst case they have a great rental to dangle at next year's deadline at the cost of a prospect and 2 months of Puig.

Reyes needed to be an American League player...and soon....that is to say he’ll be a DH. Liability in the OF...and SD must not see a budding first-baseman in him either. But he can hit...and he’s likely to get better.

Reyes looks like a nice young OF with big power and really bad defense. He's a better fit in the AL. Logan Allen will probably go back to AAA but he's a back end top 100 type with high floor but lower ceiling. Nice get for Cleveland

Long term I would rather see the Indians with Reyes than Bauer, even though it didn't look like they would extend him anyways.
