VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 So does the catcher have to tag the batter on strike 3 if the ball hits the dirt before the catcher makes a clean catch?
stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 I guess Harper has moved off the “ship him out” list.
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Yeah! The Hopper smoked that last guy with his 70 mph heater.
drock2190 Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Ryne Harper survived the whole 1st half of the year and pitched fairly well! Props to him!
MVP Nick Punto Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 With the score still 1-1, that awful bottom of the 4th just keeps looking worse and worse.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 So does the catcher have to tag the batter on strike 3 if the ball hits the dirt before the catcher makes a clean catch? The batter is not out if the catcher does not catch and hold the pitch in the air except if there is a runner on first with less than two outs. The batter then has to be tagged or be called out on a force play at first base. If there are two outs and runner(s) on base said runner(s) would also be in play to be forced out at the next base they are advancing to. I have seen the play a few times where the bases are loaded with two outs and strike three is not caught in the air by the catcher, who then picks up the ball and steps on home plate to force the runner advancing from third to home.Edit: the batter is out if he leaves the area around home plate even if he is not otherwise put out.
FLTwinsGuy Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Anyone going to get Choo out today?

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Just checking in to say, the Buxton baserunning blunder is about as bad a mistake as you'll ever see. You learn in little league why that's incredibly stuoid....it might cost a run. And it did.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 I disagree with the folks saying Buxton made a baserunning mistake. He’s the fastest guy in the league and other teams are allowed to make good plays too.

That’s a big and unnecessary risk when you’re already in scoring position and have his speed
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 That was a painfully long half inning, but Littell has looked really good since converting to a reliever. Outside of that awful outing against Tampa where he gave up 8 runs, he has pitched 9 scoreless innings.
MVP Nick Punto Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 The pitchers have done their job. Time to manufacture something at the plate

You just don't do that. Ever. Specifically because it's stupid, and might cost a run, for very little gain.

If Buxton doesn’t tag and Gallo’s throw sails in somewhere near the on deck circle, then everyone will rightly claim Buxton should be on third.

Tag on a medium fly to center?
twinssporto Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Got the outlaws in town from Pittsburgh today and for the next few days...Couldn't join the fray today. Just wanted to jump on and say GO TWINS! I'm sure we'll pull ahead now. Sorry it took me so long. Didn't mean for the team to languish all day. Apologies!
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Don’t do what? Tag on a medium fly to center? tag on a medium fly to center with one out already and a runner on third who will be tagging. Sorry, but this is just baseball 101. This is something every player knows. Boneheaded, and Buxton already knew this and would tell you the same. He made a bad mental error, it's not the end of the world, but it's not questionable in any way, either. Hopefully it doesnt cost a win.

Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 The Buxton baserunning play is one of those where if you do it you damn well better be safe. I think he was assuming the throw would go to home. If you're going to be aggressive this type of thing will happen from time to time. I think Rocco will be discussing this matter with Buck if he hasn't already.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Yep bullpen has been good, they need to keep us alive here one more time.
