The Buxton baserunning play is one of those where if you do it you damn well better be safe. I think he was assuming the throw would go to home. If you're going to be aggressive this type of thing will happen from time to time. I think Rocco will be discussing this matter with Buck if he hasn't already.

I doubt Rocco needs to say anything. My guess is, if anyone said anything, it was Buxton apologizing for making such a poor decision.

I think the larger point is, hitting is hard, fielding is hard. I dont think it's fair to criticize players too harshly for not getting a hit every time, or for making an occasional fielding error.

 

But I think it's fair to criticize a player for a mental error, particularly one as bad as this one.
