Wouldn’t shock me to see Duffey be optioned.

The postgame report said that Gibson is starting tomorrow. With the All-Star break starting in less than 24 hours, I doubt any transaction will be made except to add Cave. 

 

If any player is put on the injured list, a player optioned less than 10 days ago could be recalled. Also, Thorpe pitched Friday night, so he won't be pitching tomorrow. If Smeltzer is recalled, another pitcher will have to be placed on the IL, DFAed, or optioned.

It seems rather risky to have Gibson start on 3 days rest given that he has probably never done so before. I imagine he throws fewer than 75 pitches and then likely Mejia or Littell.

Certainly not in line with everything they have done (extra rest, disabling with injuries that won't even last 10 days etc.). I remember clearly that Gibson was ready to pitch on the last day of the season on short rest in 2015 if the Twins still had a chance at the Wild Card (they didn't).

 

Also Gibson pitched in the 18-inning game and then was given additional days off.

Looks like it's going to be a combination of Gibson and Smeltzer tomorrow, with the possibility of multiple innings from Mejia too. Maybe they use Gibson as an opener...

Sorry to break it to everyone but I just got the call. It seems for diversity compliance, the Twins decide that a 72-year-old coming off shoulder replacement surgery would tick off several boxes on the compliance check list. I've never pitched but they told me that I'm starting Sunday.
