Name of the game.

Someone i was just hanging out with used the phrase "name of the game" a couple times, and it finally sunk in. They name hurricanes, but we don't (yet) name Twins games.

Admittedly, naming things is a serious undertaking. Not something to be done lightly, and in the interest of proving that rule, today's game is "Pablo"

I know it's Sunday. The summer is up and running. The current intro writer regulars have better things to do, and so it falls through to me. I humbly apologize for any inconvenience my irregularities cause you. I take pride in my irregularity and wouldn't have it any other way. If i were old enough, i hope i woulda been a Baker Street Irregular.

So i hear we are pretty good this year. I didn't do anything. Not my fault. So... who can we credit?

IT and the family, checking in from Section 338, high above the third base line, hoping Jorge Polanco goes all Pablo Sanchez on the Tigers.

Last night we watched Dougie Baseball’s Tiger AAA team (of course, it was the Tigers farm system, so it’s kinda like AA elsewhere) sweep Indianapolis at Fifth Third Field. Following the instructions of my elementary school math teacher to use fractions properly, I’ll just add that 1 2/3 Field is a really excellent place to catch a game if you ever are in Toledo.

A fifth of a third is one fifteenth, no?

Are they still the Mudhens? One of may favorite all-time minor-league names! I tried very hard to convince my daughter and her teammates to name their softball team the Mudhens, but they refused. It just seemed to fit perfectly in the wet Portland spring where half the games are canceled because the infield is too muddy.

Yes, with mascots Muddy and Muddonna.

But we’d better take a discussion of the first part offline before folks accuse us of doing math.

In the Cruz HR replay it looked like the ball hit the bat in the zero-power zone where the barrel starts to taper into the handle. It also left at such a high angle that looked like it would have a hard time reaching the warning track.
