Zack Littell recalled. Adams DFA’d

For anyone who may be interested in what Littell has accomplished at AAA from 2018 to 2019:

He's improved at AAA as of late, and hopefully this year will go better for Zack after his handful of MLB games didn't fare well. With about 150 IP at AAA, you'd think Littell might be ready for the bigs sooner rather than later... if he's going to be a big-leaguer, that is.

Littell reminds be a bit of Liam Hendriks.  About as good (but not quite) as Hendriks in the minors and real struggle in the majors as a starter and it took a different organization and a move to the pen to be relevant.   About the same age when they shuttled up and down, as well.

Adams sucked and the Twins need an arm.  I'd rather see Romero, but Littell can do his thing and shuttle down again...

I'm not understanding this thread. To me, Littell looks like the exact same pitcher he was last year.

Littell is a better idea than Austin Adams, but that was true before Adams was called up in the first place.

If Littell can avoid a disaster he will be an OK bullpen arm with an ERA in the upper fours, maybe better if he sticks around long enough to get better.

Why do they need another bullpen arm?

Just roll with the regular 12 guys and call up Cave.

Why call up Cave?  Kid doesn't get ABs when he's up, just let him hit in AAA.

Littell is already on the 40-man, so this means an open spot again, right?

Yes.  Adams was out of options, that's why they had to DFA him instead of optioning him.  Might be outrighted if he passes ;)

Just making room for Max Scherzer. :)

I'd take Littell being on the roster as a long reliever, soaking up some innings so that less relievers have to pitch. I'll take an ERA in the fours in that role.

Maybe we should've called up Liddell instead. the other team would probably be too afraid of what he'd do to them in the parking lot after the game if they got a hit to even swing at a pitch. chuck-liddell.jpg

This move does clear a spot on the 40-man roster, so the team could claim some other team's DFA. When does the claim sequence come from this season's record?

The Wikipedia page says "In the first month of the season, preference is determined using the previous year's standings," so we are beyond that. Standings-order in their own league, then standings-order in the other.

I've got a copy of the league rules tucked away somewhere, so I could check further if we needed to know the exact date.

Anyway right now we'd be literally last in line to snap up some National League team's waiver-wire mistake. :)

They might be clearing a 40 man spot to trade their competitive draft pick......the draft is coming up. Or, they cleared a spot because signing Adams and promoting him was not a good idea at all, and they may as well DFA him at this point.

It made for a good story while in Seattle. But now that that's done ... onward. :)

I wish someone had whispered in Adam's ear BEFORE the Angels outing "you're going to get DFA'd no matter how you pitch". It would have been a true statement (probably)...and he probably would have retired the side in order. Most importantly, I would have gotten 45 minutes more sleep that night.

Honestly...how stressful is life for a AAAA pitcher under current rules and the way major-leauge bullpens are managed in today's game. I feel for Adams...and everyone (of which there are dozens) in his same situation.

League is only a tiebreaker when two claiming teams have the same record. So we are last in line for all waiver claims right now.

If a player is claimed by only one club, that club is awarded the claim. If more than one club makes a claim, the club with the lowest winning percentage (regardless of league) either from the previous season (beginning on the day after the conclusion of the MLB regular season through the 30th day of the MLB regular season) or on the day the player clears waivers (beginning on the 31st day of the MLB regular season through the last day of the MLB regular season) is awarded the claim. If two clubs with the same winning percentage make a claim, the club in the player's own league is awarded the claim. If two clubs from the same league make a claim and they are tied in the standings, the club with the lowest winning percentage from the previous season is awarded the claim. If the clubs are still tied, standings from two years back (or three years back, four years back, etc) are used to break the tie.

(August trade waivers were based on league and record as you describe, but they didn't apply to DFA guys, and in any case they don't exist anymore!)

I'll take "Phrases that give me a warm feeling inside for $400, Alex."

What is the Status of Mejia? I know he was put on the IL but will he be brought back for the long relief role/lefty when he is healthy?

Let's hope not...

Austin D Adams was claimed by the Tigers. The Twins may get to face him in the near future.

Let's hope so...
