Dang, Buxton out of the game after a collision with the wall...and 3 strikeouts. Unreal. We'll see Cave starting tomorrow I reckon.

How do you make someone like buxton stop running into the wall without affecting the best part of his game?

I honestly think that when he's struggling at the plate, he gets more reckless in the field, trying to make up for his mistakes or justify his presence in the game.

 

The answer to your question: you teach him to hit.

Byron Buxton has been removed from tonight's game, is being evaluated for back pain after crashing into CF wall.

Buxton is so gifted athletically that we hardly notice how awkward he looks going back on baseballs. especially near the wall. Great ones like Edmonds, Griffey, Hunter, and Randy Moss could take their eyes off the ball and run to a spot and the ball would be there. Buxton lacks that natural tracking and timing. Not that robbing HR is easy, but poor timing and body control plus Olympic speed plus wall equals dangerous. He needs to play deeper.

As an umpire, I can't believe the HP umpire would overrule that call (correctly, it appears) when it's the 3B umpire's call after it passes the bag.
