I didn't see the controversy. The home plate ump called it foul, correctly, before it crossed the bag. That should make the base umps call moot. I suppose they could have let the base umps call stand, reviewed it, and overturned it? Twenty minutes later.

its the third base umps call. I think he was screened, didn't see it well, and agreed to let the home plate ump change his call.

 

But a ball that goes past the third base bag cannot be "correctly called foul" before it goes past the bag. It's not a foul ball yet. It could roll in foul territory all the way to the bag, veer inside the bag just as it gets there, and it's a fair ball.

Count me as unimpressed with Buxton's effort on that Mondesi HR. He lost track of the ball and never had a shot but it didn't stop him from a comical crash into the wall.
