Sano Enters Camp Injured

HIPPA protects certain doctor/patient details, but the above isn't true.
Teams in every single sport release information regarding on field sustained injuries.
In fact, in some leagues, notably the NFL, it's literally required.

I would guess that it's part of the standard contract to allow this to be publicized. Maybe that's true in other sports as well, I don't know.

"The injury was sustained around the time of the celebration". Just what does that mean. What is the big secret. Why can't anyone say exactly how it happened, and what happened? Happened during the celebration? While on the field? In the clubhouse? Out drinking later? What? It makes me think that it happened foolishly and they don't want to say.....

I'd think it just means that nobody wants to throw a young Dominican teammate under the bus.

And I'd guess the reason there is a boot now as opposed to prior to now is that the winter ball season was over and there was no need to put on cleats, or any kind of footwear for that matter. Now he's in Ft. Myers and participating in team activities and they're not going to have him wandering the clubhouse and field all day wearing gauze and a sock.

It's stitches, not a broken bone or torn ligament. The boot is most likely just a matter of practicality, not medical necessity.

I agree with you. But, unfortunately, gambling has become such a big part of the sport, that not having that information publicly available would result in chaos.

That's the gambling houses' problem, not MLB's.

THE SKY IS FALLING.  THE SKY IS FALLING.

Seriously, everybody complaining about Sano, get a grip.

It's a horizontal laceration on the heel and the Twins are making absolutely sure it doesn't re-open with activity.  Even if he's out until March 1, he gets almost 4 weeks of ST.

Put the PANIC/Life Alert buttons away.

Why, exactly? What would knowing this earlier do for us?

By the same token, how is not knowing what really happened a good thing?  This is the age of information and people in his spot can't quite fly under the radar anymore.  If it had to do with some kind of foolish behavior it would help to know.

I'll try to give him the benefit of the doubt, but since he's amassed some pretty silly incidents off the field and you wonder if poor decision-making will sabotage his career eventually.  I have tried to give him credit for the work he apparently did this offseason.  Hard to imagine this didn't involve some stupidity/hijinks on his part.  More than likely, information is being suppressed to protect him.  Not sure if that is helping him

It's been said that he was RUNNING THROUGH AN ACTIVE MINE FIELD with his buddies JUST FOR KICKS and got nicked by some shrapnel...

I mean c'mon!  To assume hijinks is ridiculous.  He says someone fell at the celebration for the Estrellas, that person pushed him onto the stairs, and he cut his heel.  Life happens and people get hurt living their life.  This is incredibly minor.

Pooh pooh it all you want, but a "laceration" suffered a month ago isnt sufficiently healed to start camp on time?? He needs a boot and another week and a half?

I call shenanigans.

Either this was handled improperly, or we aren't being told the entire truth.

Conspiracy theory?

......Baldelli said the injury was sustained around the time of the celebration of the Dominican Winter League playoffs last month, when Sano won the league championship with his team, Estrellas Orientales."

"The injury was sustained around the time of the celebration".

He got spiked all right: Bacardi 151. Didn't even know he was bleeding.

Thank God for the wife, huh? Helped him through that little 3:00 a.m. thing where Bocaton ran over a cop's leg with his BMW. Several bundles of cash later: they old school buddies.

Then she helps him realize he's lacerated and bleeding like crazy just as the mayor is about to hug him on the podium.

They sew him up with palm fronds?

Bad tele-novela, with many episodes.

You're right.  Now I'm hearing that HE WENT SWIMMING WITH SHARKS OFF THE COAST OF AUSTRALIA with his buddies AND ONE OF THE SHARKS JUST ABOUT CLEAN RIPPED HIS WHOLE FOOT OFF.  The Twins are being pretty aggressive with his rehab timeline, but we shall see!

Miguel Sano said that his heel was cut during the parade for their Dominican Winter League championship. A teammate slipped on stage and pushed Sano, who scraped his leg against metal on the stairs. Needed 12 stitches.

6:52 AM - 20 Feb 2019

I miss so much, not being a twit. I can't even get the tweet to transfer in the qoute and format right.

Now the leg seems different than the heel, to me. And a what the hell kind of shoes was he wearing if this got his heel so severly cut scraped against the metal of the stairs? Maybe he was barefoot?

Hey, I know it doesn't really matter what happened, and it only matters how it gets corrected at this point, but when I see BS and hear BS, it just makes my mind go crazy with speculation, regardless of its worth.

The team knowing about it? Important. Fans knowing about it? Unimportant

In a perfect world for teams, fans wouldn't have to know a thing about details. News is released for fans to read and discuss. Thus, we're discussing Sano's injury like we'd discuss any other news our team gives out. That's why I counter your argument by saying it IS important for fans to know things like this. A fan across the world may have been planning a trip to Fort Myers to see his favorite player practice and play, but didn't receive word that Sano could potentially miss a week of games or more. You never know :)

Yeah, as much as this really isn't a big deal, I think we all have to admit it sounds pretty unbelievable. There's some video of the parade here and it looks like a helluva fun place to be but I'm guessing Sano's not the only one who left the parade with an injury.

Regardless, it'll be a moot point in the very near future. The only reason we're talking about this is because the Twins haven't signed Kimbrel or anyone else they need, and there's no baseball right now. And we've still got another month to go!

There are so many wonderful options when you are in the Caribbean!  Basically anything you'd wear in July in Minnesota!

The Twins don't exactly have a sterling reputation when it comes to internally addressing or publicly reporting injuries. Would it be all that surprising if the shenanigans involved here are simply what we've already grown accustomed to with this organization?

I like the baby/toddler in front of the driver rider on the small motorcycle with the passenger on the rear at 1:55 and 2:15 (that passenger drinking beer). Now that's a parade!

This clip shows even more possiblities of sordid injuries waiting to happen....

I hope all of us feel privileged about how nice we have it--even when we think things are tough.  From a lot of accounts, the number of traffic deaths in Bali exceeds 25,000+ per year.  By contrast MN had 380 fatalities in 2018. Bali has a population of 4.2 million compared to 5.6 million in MN.  I'd imagine the extraordinary rate is the same in the Caribbean.  Be thankful!

The Jakarta Post puts it considerably lower, "across" Bali. In 2015, 504 people died in traffic accidents.

I don't know how reliable this source is. I'd be interested to see a source stating 50X that.

After reading all the comments, I am considering ending it all. But I can't decide if I should slit my wrists, cut my wrists, or lacerate my wrists? :)

Correct answer is amputate. But don’t ef it up. Wearing a prosthetic arm sucks

I got a laceration on my chin from shaving, my doctor wasn't too concerned he sent me home. After I had to pay him a 50 dollar co-pay.

Ruesse on todays Garage Logic podcast, reported that Sanos injury was stitched up down there. It got infected and some say it looks like a "dog bite". Reported he is at 80% healed, so will be a few more days.
