gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Mostly from Heyman's twitter. Profar for Harvey swap being discussedYankees trying to trade for Gerritt Cole but Pirates say they aren't trading himCarlos Santana turned down 3/36 from Cleveland to test marketSeattle will improve pitching, looking at DarvishIf Yankees get Cole, I might scream.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Profar for Harvey kind of makes sense. Both players desperately need a change of scenery that's for sure. So much for thinking the Yankees are going to sit back waiting for the super FA class of 2019.... I will scream too if Cole ends up on their team. Hold strong, Pittsburgh! 3/36 isn't enough for Santana. I predict he's going to get at least $50 MM on the open market. The Twins are a pretty good fit and should certainly look into him. I see him as a clear upgrade over Grossman/Vargas.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Let's keep this thread for the rumors out there, and the other for actual deals made. That way it will (hopefully) keep the overlap to a minimum.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 More from Heyman and others - Orioles are shopping Machado Fernando Rodney met with the Twins Cubs might sign Cobb DBacks might move LHP Corbin Miami will give away Ozuna!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Fernando Rodney? Not super inspiring.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 I've never liked Rodney - he always seemed lucky to me - but he's done it for a long time and he wouldn't be the worst arm in the pen.
drewbyrne Verified Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 I've heard a lot about the twins signing dervish at what point would people think we paid too much.

I just wish he could get his head screwed on straight - either that, or it's his hat.

twinsfanstreif Provisional Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 https://twitter.com/pbcbreakdown I obviously forgot how to embed Twitter into here.Basically the Cole sweepstakes are down to the Twins, Mariners, and the Evil Empire. I would be very happy with Cole but it seems like the prospect haul would be pretty daunting, what are we talking? Gordon, Gonsalves, and Thorpe? Is that too much, right about on, or not enough?

No one knows if this is true, but that same twitter account said this:https://twitter.com/pbcbreakdown/status/940390540998250497 Most people on this forum said they'd do that in a heartbeat so that's what is making us question the legitimacy.

I would do that trade asap. I like Gordon but I'm fine with our middle infielders currently and we have plenty of prospects in that area. I kind of also see Gordon as a good but not great player long term

I'd think a bit longer about the reported asking price of Nick Gordon, Tyler Jay, and Zach Granite.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 The Cole discussion regarding the Twins is ongoing in the Twins forum. Please let's leave it over there and not have a 3rd or 4th thread throughout the site discussing this. Same with the Rodney discussion. While I understand these rumors are often presented along side others, and that's fine, please be mindful that this forum is for non-Twins talk. Yes, it's very difficult (actually impossible) to separate these discussions absolutely, but let's not make these discussions solely Twins or dominantly Twins discussions in the Other MLB forum. If you think this information needs to be 'over there' and it's not already, get it going 'over there' and leave 'here' to (mostly) non-Twins.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Well this thread is specifically for "off-season rumors" I think Cole discussions qualify for thatNo ... not in the OTHER BASEBALL forum. Yes, I understand how it gets mentioned, but if you want to talk specifically about this in regards to the Twins, please take it to the Twins forum. It would be one thing if you were comparing what others might offer and how the other teams chances are in comparison, I can see that, and yes, that would qualify, but if you are just making it yet another discussion on how the Twins can acquire (or not acquire) certain players, it really needs to be taken to the Twins Talk forum. Edit: And now I've edited the title to reflect this. Again, I understand the mentions, and that's fine, but for full-on Twins discussions, please take them to the Twins Talk forum. Thank you!
cmoss84 Verified Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Is Machado really going to get traded? mlb.com says there is progress being made, with 5 teams having discussions. Orioles are said to want two pitchers. This seems like it might actually happen. Santana and Mejia? (just kidding, but seriously though, what would it take for one year of Manny?)
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Machado would be my dream ... but I've always known that one would go into the 'unfulfilled' category.

(just kidding, but seriously though, what would it take for one year of Manny?)Gonsalves and Romero as a starting point. It's interesting. At the end of the day, it's only one year of Manny (plus a future pick when he leaves). Realistically, he might be worth something like 5 WAR. And if you look at other trades where someone expects about 5 WAR in return, something like Romero, Gonsalves and Thorpe (if they want pitchers) + Mejia would be arguably fair. But Machado is such a name that Baltimore should get a major overpay. Or maybe no one meets their price.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Old friend Oswaldo Arcia has signed with a Japanese ball club. Good luck to him. Yankees say price for Cole is too high so I'm not sure that the Gordon, Jay, Granite rumor is accurate. Twins on Darvish, Seattle might be too.

Twins33 Verified Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 BARFa team wanting him after the 2016 season was iffy. After the 2017 season when he got worse? Why..?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 The Padres and Royals are in a bidding war for Eric Hosmer and it's supposedly up to 7 years at over $20M per?! What am I missing? I guess KC could claim that sentimentality is worth 100M, what's San Diego's excuse? Don't these teams know that average to slightly above average 1B can be bought at Cosco two-for-the-price-of-one at a fraction of that price these days?
Twins33 Verified Member Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I really hope he sticks with the Royals at that price. I'm all for teams in our division doing dumb things.
