With Mauer having his best post-concussion season (it does make you wonder how much the concussion cost him), you have to wonder if he could maybe go help the Vikings offense.  I bet he can still throw a mean pass that goes beyond 5 yards.

Yeah, but he can only throw to left side of the field, so they'd just stack the defense over there.

It is pretty tough to think about what Mauer and Morneau (throw Koskie in there too) could've been without those concussions. Both were basically MVP caliber guys robbed of a few years in (or close to) their prime.

So what exactly is the deal with Sano? What aren't we hearing?

 

Dick said tonight he couldn't put weight on it and is still in a boot. It didn't sound close to that bad initially (he jogged out an out before leaving the game with the injury), in fact sounded almost precautionary. Kind of curious.

 

Not suggesting a conspiracy, or mishandling, but I must have missed something along the way.

Koskie and Morneau both played hockey in their younger years. Mauer played football through high school. I wonder if their concussion issues are rooted in those sports. Everything suggests the damage is cumulative. That is, each one - no matter the severity - makes the symptoms worse.

Pretty good bet Niko gets into tonight's game.

It would be nice if they had the bench to get Mauer, Buxton, and Dozier a break.

This Skoglund guy must be tiring.  The graphic tells me he's thrown 72 pitches....and I know he hasn't been in THAT long.

Could be, but I don't think there's much rhyme or reason to concussions. Some guys get 1 and are done. Some get 50 and somehow continue to function in the short-term (Jordan Leopold).

 

I can't imagine a QB of Mauer's size and ability in MN high school football in 2001 took a lot of devastating head blows. One year we had an offensive guard, and basically 9/11ths of our defense that was smaller than Mauer.

I played 10 years of football as a 150 pound weakling QB and never got a single concussion

Yes, but back when Mauer was in high school there wasn't the attention paid to concussions that there is now.
