Funny how many posts have been made regarding the reasons for getting rid of this guy. He has arguably been the best pitcher since his arrival.
Why don't we all sit back and enjoy what pitching is all about. MOVEMENT,CHANGE OF SPEED AND LOCATION. Not bad for a old MAN! Give the man his credit for going out and being a work horse.

Best bargain around. The Twins are getting production for that small aprt of the salary that they have to pay for his services.

Now I'm not sure what he would be worth if you were going to negotiate a contract for next year.

Be interesting to see what happens to him.

Not great, but better than Gibson, Pelfrey or any number of other souls.

And keeping us in the hunt!

I enjoy the games more when he pitches and I think the team does also.I hope they bring him back next year.  One year deal.

Still has a chance to catch Marichal. Needed 8 wins when they acquired him. I would have bet anything he couldn't get there. Needs 4 now. Probably 6 starts remaining. Very unlikely but 2 wins this week keeps the door open.

I think I was one of about 2 posters that liked the move from the start.

He's been far from ace material, but compared to what we had been getting from that 5th spot he's been good and stabilizing.

I loved the signing at the time. They definitely needed a "pro" arm on this club. He has been one of the biggest unsung heros over the last month or so.

Every time he pitches well Dozier says "I hope the other guys were watching, he pumps the strike zone all night." To me it seems like he is talking directly to Gibson...throw strikes, stop nibbling! Unfortunately when Gibson does that he gets crushed.

I'd be OK signing Colon for the 5th spot next year. He sure is fun to watch. I can't figure how how his stuff plays anymore, but it does...most of the time.

I liked the signing and it was really a low risk.  I'm not going to lie though, I didn't think he'd do this well.  I just love watching him pitch and as I said before, it's so nice to see one guy older than me in the league.

I didn't have a problem with the signing because the Twins had no SP depth but I had no expectations that he would be productive.

I will be the contrarian in the thread though and at the end of the season say 'Thank you, We wish you success next season wherever that may be'. Colon 2017 reminds me of Livan 2008. The success just isn't going to last but it has been fun.

I was amused the other day that Colon promised his mom that he would pitch until he's 45.

Happy to see Colon pitch well. He was needed at the time due to lack of depth. I pray he (or someone like him) is not needed as the 5th spot in the rotation needs to be for the young guys with options.

We have an awfully low bar to be better than the recent rotation options of the past 6 years. "Your better than Mike Pelfrey" is quite the backhanded compliment. However the two do have similarities as only having "one stupid pitch".

At some point Big Sexy will go the way of Big Pelf. Hoping he's not in a Twins unit when he does.

I do hope he gets his last 4 wins for the 243 number

Comparing Colon and Pelfrey? Should we look at career stats? Change of speed, movement and location. For me a 5th starter will take his turn, eat innings, keep us in games and wins more than he loses. Our young guys can learn from him. How do you get MLB HITTERS out with 1 stupid pitch!

Yuk. And not the ha ha yuk. Take it while you can...... luck can run out very quickly. Tic toc.

In his last 14.2 innings pitched, he has given up 20 hits, 8 earned runs, and 7 home runs. I don't have to like him. I just hope the inevitable doesn't happen as soon as I expect it will.

Pitching 101 says we need to keep a batter guessing if we don't have overpowering stuff. That's where MPH AND MOVEMENT makes the same pitch be different. That's how guys like Colon get people out. They know how to pitch. The game within the game....the pitcher against the batter. MPH and the same pitch. Does it move the same?

I was  thinking about what a Colon extension might look like and I came up with (very rough numbers): 10 years / $185 million.

Does your chart show location, movement and mph? If so my page didn't show.

You are right, location and speed change is the key to both pitcher's success or lack thereof. That's a really fine line to walk. I trust Big Sexy more, but as evidenced by his stint in Atlanta, he may not be effective enough for a whole season at 45, he may not be effective for another start at 44.

I hope he is effective, just not convinced that he will.

Colon is much more like 2008 Livan. Early success with terrible peripherals that suggest things can turn ugly fast. It has been a great ride so far though.

That is why charts like yours are worthless. At his age he will pitch until he cant! But at least we know that he has. Santana is the only other pitcher we have that has been consistently successful. Give me a Powerball ticket with the winning numbers if you know when he can't get people out anymore. We will celebrate together.

Very fun addition to the year, but if I remember right we took good years from Hughes, some good signs from Pelfrey and like others made extensions.  Enjoy this year, but don't go crazy.

He has a 6.35 ERA this year with a 5.32 FIP. This might indeed be the year that he can't get people out anymore. All that we are seeing is a small 8 game sample size that includes an 88% strand rate.

If the Twins had other options then I would suggest them but they already still have Gibson in the rotation so there isn't any reason to yank Colon. Expectations should be low though.

And we have how many starting pitchers better
than Colon, by stats, since his arrival? Be careful how you look! THATS WHAT I THOUGHT.

I am sorry if you are offended by my comments but I have mentioned numerous times that the Twins didn't have any SP depth when they signed Colon and they still don't have a good option to replace him so there isn't a reason to stop running him out there.

But there should be every expectation that his success won't continue. It would be great if they could squeeze another month of okay-ish starts out of him though.
