spinowner Provisional Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Greetings, and welcome to the game thread. 1.) As almost all of us know, this weekend the organization is recognizing the 30th anniversary of the 1987 World Championship team. Here is a summary of today’s events copied from the Twins web site: • 1987 World Series Championship Stein will be given away to the first 10,000 fans 21+ through the gates (presented by Budweiser)• Pregame alumni photos at the Digital Clubhouse from 4:15-4:45 p.m. and near Gate 29 and in the Puckett Atrium within the Delta Sky360 Club from 4:45-5:15 p.m.• Twins 1987 World Series Reunion pregame with emcee Dick Bremer begins with an introduction of the 1987 World Championship Team. The ceremony will include speeches by former players Kent Hrbek and Frank Viola - 6:00-6:25 p.m.• The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by former closer Jeff Reardon to former catcher Tim Laudner, a remake of the final out of the 1987 World Series• Bob Showers will be signing copies of his book The Twins in the Dome at the Majestic Team Store• The Twins will wear the "M" logo caps and a 1987 Anniversary patch• Members of the 1987 team will be honored during a pregame ceremony• The 1987 World Series Trophy will be on display at the Digital Clubhouse for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings 2.) I would be remiss if I didn’t include one of many memories from the 1987 season. I was at the game on September 3, a Thursday afternoon. I had a standing policy not to attend day games in the dome if the weather was nice, but given the circumstances of the team being in the chase I suspended that for the day. We won 2-1 in 10 innings on a bases-loaded walk to Al Newman, but that’s not what I remember. In fact, I had to look that up. Here’s what I do remember: We were trailing 1-0 with the bases empty and two out in the bottom of the 9th when Kirby hit a home run to tie the game. But it wasn’t just a routine home run. He absolutely mashed it. The ball landed two-thirds of the way up the lower deck in left field. Game 6 in 1991 notwithstanding, I think that was the most impressive home run I ever saw him hit. And it was at that moment that I knew that that team was going to do something special. 3.) The longest English word that is typed only with the left hand using standard technique on a qwerty keyboard is aftercataracts. 4.) August 21, 2017 will be great, but April 8, 2024 will be even better. 5.) Brandenburg Concerto #3 may be the most perfect piece of music ever composed. Expected weather at game time:Skies: Partly SunnyTemperature: 84ºFDew Point: 64ºFHeat index: 86ºFWind: NW 7MPHPrecipitation: 0% Starting pitchers:Minnesota: RHP Kyle Gibson (5-8, 6.29)Detroit: RHP Jordan Zimmerman (6-7, 5.58)Lineups and batting orders are not available at this time.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Hard to argue with Bach, but the Adagio for Strings and the Mozart Requiem will venture to try. Also, are you sure it isn't 6:40-ick? There is often confusion about this.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I am a little fuzzy on the concept of most perfect. But i agree it is hard to argue with Bach, or indeed anyone not here. I do expect there are those here that are better than me at it.

AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Can I humbly put forward bach's double violin concerto for consideration? Or Mozart's requiem? Edit: I see Craig already did (requiem)
spinowner Provisional Member Posted July 22, 2017 Author Posted July 22, 2017 I am a little fuzzy on the concept of most perfect. Most perfect is what I say is most perfect. Of course, it's only my opinion.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Years ago, I worked as a bellboy at the Sun Valley Ski Resort. One of the famous local residents was Arnold Schwarzenegger, and one day while skiing, I found myself riding the chairlift with him. He was quite friendly. Keeping in mind, this was the 90's, and he had recently starred as Mr. Freeze in the horriblest Batman movie ever, he lamented his and other action star's Hollywood typecasting. He told me that to combat this, he, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone had plans to independently produce a serious, dramatic biopic of the great composers of the 19th century. In his booming Austrian baritone, he told me: "Bruce will be playing Tchaikovsky." "Stallone will play Verdi." There was a silence, and so I finally ventured to ask him, "And who will you be playing?" His answer: "Well, of course, I'll be Bach!"
