Well, I agree. They have three rotation spots that are black holes, and the other two spots are occupied by guys pitching like Cy Young candidates. The addition of even one reliable starter would do wonders.

Yeah but as good as Berrios and Santana have been, they are due for regression as well. They can't supressing keep hits without spiking their strikeout totals.

I've reached the point where I wonder if Nick Blackburn is still available.

Throw a Silva in for good measure.

What a depressing start to the series.  Blink and the lead is gone.  No surprises, either - the Twins are throwing their terrible starters out there and the Indians are mashing.  It would have been so nice to see the Twins somehow pull one of these first 2 games out.  But like death and taxes, it was unavoidable.

Mejia is the best pitcher we've got going this entire series.  He's up next.  If the Twins are gonna take a game, I think tonight's the night.

I'd take a 1-3 result in this series happily and twice on Sundays.

From Wikipedia --

"After being released by the Twins in late 2013, Blackburn encountered problems with his surgically repaired knee which he had surgery on in August. Because of a needed second surgery on his right knee, Blackburn spent the 2014 season recovering from knee surgery.[14] Since his retirement, Blackburn went on to be a coach for his former high school, Washington High School in Washington, Oklahoma."

Sadly, a Nick Blackburn type would look pretty good in this rotation.

On January 3, 2012, Silva signed a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox. He was released on March 17.

No 401(k) plan to use to avoid the extra tax? Have you considered an IRA?

I avoid overtime. Honestly, I make more than enough money to keep my wife and I in a decent lifestyle. We're far from rich but we don't lack. Overtime just isn't worth it. I'd rather be home scrubbing floors than be at work.

It's reasonable to think that, but the optimist in me says Santana will continue with his career year, and that Berrios is really this good all or most the time.

yeah, maybe we wouldn't have the very worst team ERA in the AL.  Maybe we'd boost all the way to 13th.

More importantly to me, the moment the Twins acquire another good, dependable starter, all stats are in the past and all teams start again at zero going forward. (Not sure I worded that well.)

Another good starter would also allow the Twins to better utilize their bullpen, instead of this constant need to bail water with these daily roster moves.

Yeah, and the bailing utensil is commonly known as a "spork."

So, you're saying maybe the FO should give Blackburn a call?

Jose Ramirez is starting to bug me.

So a ground ball double, a walk, and a 60 ft single.

Can we get a break?

You know it's bad when the batter hits a double on a ball that is right on the lower edge of the zone. Conversely, that's when you know a batter is swinging a hot bat.

Thing is, this season should still be considered developmental. This team simply isn't ready to make a serious chase at a title. Understanding that, I can't blame the Twins for fishing around for pitching talent, especially lefty talent. Turley definitely had earned a cup of coffee. I'm not so sure about Wilk, but he has shown flashes of filthy stuff, just not consistently.

Again, if we chill our enthusiasm just a bit, the idea of trying out middle rotation guys like Turley and Wilk makes sense, just as it will make sense to move away from them if they don't show significant improvement after a few outings.

Sorry. I could be dead by then. I think this is a horrible attitude when you are in first place and "in the playoffs" in the middle of June! This kind of attitude never wins championships, but always looks to the rosy future. The Cubs weren't "ready" last year either, until they were. Nobody is ready, until they are, and what makes them ready, is that they get in the playoffs and start/keep winning. There is a reason that other teams jettisoned Turley and Wilk after more investment and patience than the Twins have had to invest. If you are just waiting for next year, or some other year, like the Nats when they didn't use Strasburg - how has that worked out? - you will be a Connie Mack competitive but no World Series titles. Yeah. Chill. How about heating up?

...and people thought the Twins' 20-run outburst was "normal"?

Only the Dodgers can just keep adding and adding another starter. It is like a new unwritten rule, apparently.

I've always really liked this Clevinger kid's stuff. The kid they threw this afternoon looked good as well.

What an asset to have guys like this that you can call up from AAA when you need a spot start.

Gee, wasn't it fun for a bit there, when we thought Santiago was that guy?

So, it appears Blackburn IS 'available.' And now it seems Silva may be, too. Hmmmmmm....

His peripherals have been awful for years. I'm not sure he should've ever been considered that guy.

But, compared to what we're seeing lately, he seemed like Sandy Koufax.

I finally get home to find that Extra Innings is not carrying the game.

I see, however, that Mejia has not given up a run. Maybe we can build on that and win this game.

Really? I'm in CA 3 hours north of you and the game is on Dish, mlb extra innings.
