bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 It looks like there will be no local broadcast of Thursday's afternoon start for Jose Berrios. That sounds like a good marketing move. /s Thanks a lot, Fox Sports.
Everyday Eddy Provisional Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Twins and Wild have brutal broadcasts on FSN. Doesn't surprise me
scottz Verified Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I thought they announced no TV on any weekday games for the rest of the year awhile back?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Instead of the game, tune into Fox Sports North for a marathon of Kent Hrbek Outdoors! Or some rerun of Texas Hold'Em Poker.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 I thought they announced no TV on any weekday games for the rest of the year awhile back?I think this would be a good time to make an exception on that.

bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 The schedule was announced before the season started. Not much they can do. They usually pick up the afternoon games that aren't originally on the schedule. I don't remember missing an afternoon game in the second half last year.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Not much they can do, other than add it to the schedule... (teams/ broadcast partners regularly add games to tv schedule) Yes, but it is usually through a trade or a rain out or something.

70charger Verified Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Is mlb.tv going to black me out of the away broadcast anyway?
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Is mlb.tv going to black me out of the away broadcast anyway?Yes. Fox retains the in-market broadcast rights even if they choose not to exercise them. We might get lucky and MLB Network will pick up the opposing team's feed.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Definite First World problem.

spinowner Provisional Member Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Definite First World problem.First World solution: Get to the airport first thing on Thursday morning and fly to Houston. Find a bar with a TV at the airport, watch the game, and fly back. Or, if you live near Minneapolis you could just go to the game in person.

howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Of course they can add it. It means the ratings on a Thursday afternoon when you're 20 games under don't justify the salaries/satellite time and extra rights fees. Not much they can do, other than add it to the schedule... (teams/ broadcast partners regularly add games to tv schedule)
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 FSN could just simulcast the other team's feed, like MLB Network does. I feel like they have done that before...? Maybe it's worth a tweet at them?
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 Even if ratings are down because the team is losing, how does it make more sense for them to put on shows that no one watches? There's got to be something I'm missing because I can't see a reason why every game for every team is not televised locally.

There's got to be something I'm missing because I can't see a reason why every game for every team is not televised locally. The only thing I can think of, is that the ratings are so low for these particular games, the financial benefit to FSN doesn't outweigh the production costs (either running your own crew, or paying the other team's broadcaster if you simulcast). It doesn't even seem to have anything to do with encouraging ballpark attendance -- looks like their are 3 unbroadcasted road games this year, compared with 5 home games (one of which was July 4th which later got picked up by ESPN). Maybe increased use of Fox Sports Go will help -- weekday afternoon games should get more eyeballs if people can watch on their computers or mobile devices.
Sarah Verified Member Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I figured the game last night (makeup from Wednesday's rain out) wouldn't be on TV but it was so they must have some kind of rule about broadcasting makeup games?
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Fox Sports North isn't televising Thursday's afternoon game. Does anybody want to guess which pitcher is starting for the Twins on that day???
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 If Berrios pitches, but no one sees him do it -- do they still offer advice about how to fix him?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 As my opinion is that Berrios' biggest issue is a little rookie mental block, I hope someone tells him soon that the game isn't televised and see if the results are any different.
jimmer Verified Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'll be watching the Twins/Tigers on Thursday.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 A Twins facebook post this morning indicates that this game will be televised closed circuit at the Twins booth at the State Fair today. But wouldn't you rather listen to Provus and Gladden for a change? You might learn something.
