Plouffe could easily double that number.  Chicks dig the long ball, you know.

The real key is whether GM's dig the long ball.

That's such a vague reference I doubt anyone caught it.  Its from an old commercial.  I think it was Maddux, Smoltz, and Heather Locklear.

You may have mixed up Glavine with Smoltz, which is OK. But you also mixed up Mark McGuire with Heather Locklear and THAT IS A PROBLEM!!

purely speculation on my part, going off what another poster pondered....a combo trade....

Trevor Plouffe + J.R Murphy + A.B. Walker  (only if we sign Park)

for

Jonathan LuCroy of the brewers  maybe we get Orlando Arcia as well  <3  (Orlando is one of the best hitting young SS's anyone has ever seen in the minors, not named Correa, A-Rod, or Jeter)

The idea of trading JR Murphy to the Brewers makes since as he is young and controllable, but a Plouffe, Murphy, ABW2 is not going to net us Lucroy and Arcia, and probably wouldn't even get us Lucroy. The Brewers aren't going to trade Arcia, he's their #1 prospect and he's basically untouchable. A team that is rebuilding isn't going to be interested in Plouffe because when they're projected to be in contention again(2018-19) Plouffe is going to be a FA. A trade of Jorge Polanco, JR Murphy, Kohl Stewart, and ABW2 is a starting point that makes more sense for the Brew Crew, however I still think they decline the offer.

Nope.  It says that you never know what is going to happen between now and the future and if you want to sell and someone has value, you better sell now because you don't know if he will flop, get injured etc.

Trevor Plouffe and Danny Santana are 2 completely different players. Santana was a terrible defender having 1 crazy BABIP season. Trevor has had 3 consistently good season's in a row. your comparison is awful

Ouch!  That part I would not forget.  I found it online.  That was a great commercial now that I look back at it.

This is the very fringe of baseball conversation, right?  ;)

Not going to happen. No way, no how.  They wouldn't trade Arcia alone straight up for those three guys, let alone with Lucroy.

The idea that there is a lot of interest in Plouffe is not surprising. He's an above average third baseman and a middle order bat to boot.

I'd imagine that anything coming back to the Twins would have to include relief help AND something else, like a prospect.

I like Trevor Plouffe. But the fact is the Twins have a really good third base prospect and they have needs in other areas. Like the Aaron Hicks trade, you take from an area of surplus and you fill a need. That's why a Plouffe trade needs to happen, so long as the return is good enough.

The Brewers would laugh Ryan out of the room with that offer.

Milwaukee needs to rebuild. They don't have any use for players already in MLB unless they have 5+ years of control.

If you want Lucroy and Arcia, the Brewers would demand Sano or Buxton in return and possibly want a guy like Gonsalves thrown in for good measure.

It's why I think a Milone trade needs to happen as well.  I'd flip Milone straight up for a decent reliever.  He's a bit redundant as a starter.

Here:   Ranking of 2015 third basemen by fWAR.  x marks the spot.  Check who is a couple ticks below him with only about half Plouffe's PAs...   Value?  Sure.  To those teams other than the ones that have a third baseman with more value than him.  Will the Yankees give up Betances for him?  I doubt it.

I also noticed on this list several players above Plouffe that moved to third base from another position. Teams with a need at 3B have other options than sign Freese or trade for Plouffe.

Perhaps you are unaware, but Orlando Arcia is the #12 prospect in all of MLB right now according to MLB.com.  He's not getting traded.

And Walker is obviously less highly regarded, but the Brewers have no particular need for another corner OF on their 40-man roster right now.

But take them out and you might be on to something.  If the Brewers are thinking reload rather than full rebuild (and they're not in as bad a position as the Phillies, Braves, etc., although their division does them no favors), and they think Murphy can be a solid starting catcher, they'd probably consider Plouffe + Murphy for Lucroy, with maybe a minor or piece or two around the edges.  Of course, if they were right about Murphy, I'm not sure that deal is very beneficial to the Twins anymore.

Boy, I hope the Brewers are rebuilding and not reloading. Going half-assed into a divisional fight with the Card, Cubs, and Pirates is a good way to ensure you'll have a bad team for a very long time.

Their only real hope is to start from scratch and hope the Pirates and Cards fade by the time they're competitive again.

Maybe it's semantics, but reloading to me doesn't imply doing anything half-assed, just doing the best with what you have, in this case, spinning shorter term assets into multiple slightly longer term ones.  Like the Gomez/Fiers and Parra deadline deals, or a hypothetical Lucroy for Plouffe/Murphy swap.

They've got enough interesting, controlled pieces either in MLB or very close now that I'm not sure "starting from scratch" is a better strategy.  Braun, Davis, a couple young starters, some great young relievers, plus Arcia and the 5 kids they already picked up at the deadline this year.  Not to mention a few solid shorter term assets still left in Lucroy and Lind.

It looks like a tough division right now, but I don't think it's enough that you blow up that team to start from scratch.

I know that  I have premature Alzheimer's, but I thought that Jed Lowrie and Bret Lawrie were one person.

I hope their parents figured it out before I did.

Yes, I still consider you a baseball expert.

Just remember that Mark McGuire is taller. (and uglier)

Baseball trades are beginning to become great mysteries to me.  The value of a starting player is a low ranked prospect?  I do not get it.

Starting player  -  his salary + his future worth  =  Prospect - his salary+ his future worth

Isn't it about time for the Jays took pick Danny up again? They just moved Hendricks for the second time, so the "recent ex-Twin" slot is open.
