meh ... I don't boo my own players, no matter what. But that's a hard one. Heh ... White Sox fans might have a hard time with him on our team, though, and that would be fun. At a game at the Cell this past season, a woman a couple rows behind me went on and on how the White Sox should've retired AJ's number, how it was sacrilege anyone else would wear it. (I laughed.)

Sure, why not.  Pretty sure that the Mets would trade Cuddaver and eat up most of the $ for someone with a heart beat.  Punto is a free agent as well.  Bring them all back, the Twins won a whole bunch of World Series with them...  /sarcasm

AJ actually helps and fills an immediate need...while cuddyer etc do not. It would be a solid pickup since the other back up C options are...um.... What's that word our old friend stat used to use? pathetic!

Interesting.

This was confirmed in a post that Twins Daily deleted at behest of the Twins yet Heyman reports it, gets links and Tweets mentions.....

What is the velocity of AJ's throws to the bases on stolen base attempts, compared to other catchers in the organization?

Let's just say that, between AJ and Zuke, most TD posters could steal bases at 80%. (Plus or minus 20%).

I was trying to be clever with the timing of this thread.

Defensively, he is actually worse than Suzuki. One of the worst in the league. Not a lot that the two of them add behind the plate, maybe they combine to create a competent hitting platoon though, which is at least directionally right in that regard.

I would rather go with a defensive-minded guy, who can frame well, and calls great pitch sequencing and location. I do not personally feel the either AJ or Suzuki offer us any of that. But, I am going into next year with very low expectations at catcher, so maybe I will be surprised.

We would finally get a throw out % in the 30's! 15 for Kurt, and 16 for AJ.:)

Pretty sure that the personnel stuff mentioned at that report was not what the Twins did not want to talk about, since Ryan talked about it in a TV interview as well.

The Twins had every right to ask for the removal of that because it was publishing something that was happened inside a focus group (and likely against legal paperwork that someone signed to be part of that focus group.)

Pretty sure that it was about the other stuff.  The player stuff is out there, plus you know when DSP is talking about players...

The TD staff really saved that post's OP's rear end by deleting that post, if you ask me, so back off :P

I didn't realize you were a lawyer now!

Fwiw: front office personal can't speak in regards to potential free agents until 9am the day after the World Series concludes, otherwise it would be tampering. Now, I'm not saying anyone on the twins did such things, but if so, perhaps maybe that is why they weren't keen on it getting out? With punishments and all.

Back to the topic at hand, give me AJ and his 2 mil deal it would cost over the more expensive and just as mediocre options.

To be fair I imagine most TD posters are fine tuned athletes and would be kick-ass base runners.

As durable as AJ is, he has got be be pretty close to falling off the cliff - is the catcher market that low?

Would he take over the smoke machine if Torii does not return?  I might change my mind if he can lead the dance party -- because when you think of AJ - you think of dance moves.

[Not sure this is how I wanted to use my 1000th post.  I was hoping to save that for when we won the World Series.]

Probably not quite the same as the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

47mph, I heard Kirby the Kestrel can fly faster than Anthony John's throws.

Great idea, if you want an older than dirt back up catcher who can't catch, and is a major pain in the arse.

He can catch, he hits well and fwiw he has never had issues with teammates and seems to be a good team player. It's the other teams that he pisses off.

I think it's really wrong-headed to look for a catcher to complement Suzuki. The Twins should be looking for a catcher who Suzuki can complement, not the other way around.

Agreed, but highly unlikely.

Concur.

Agreed. AJ is a fine plan B or plan C, but by no means should the Twins go ahead and fill up the private jet with fuel to pick him up immediately when FA period begins.

He can't throw, can't catch, and his hitting and health will be going downhill.  He's never had issues with teammates?  That would be news to San Fran teammates...

I think this could be a great fit. One year deal. LH platoon partner. Leadership / instigator. Frost tips. I'd love to see AJ back tbh.

I mean, baserunners would run wild, that's a given. They'd have to coach up pick off moves and AJ's framing like they did with Zuke last year. If they can do that, and if his bat is there one more year, it could be a steal (no pun intended).
