Trevor May - Elbow Contusion

Trevor May was pitching well for the Minnesota Twins in front of family and friends in Seaettle. He was starting to cruise after giving up two runs in the first inning. In the 4th frame, Kyle Seager lined a ball back to him (at 103 mph). May turned and it hit him in the back of the elbow.

He left the game and got x-rays which were negative, which of course is positive.

The team is calling it an elbow contusion.

No word on if he will need to miss a start or possibly go on the Disabled List. If so, Ricky Nolasco's Sunday rehab start in Cedar Rapids is much more important.

I'll believe it is just a bruise when he makes another start (and is effective) for the Twins.  So often, initial X-rays are negative, but after the inflammation subsides they find a fracture.

Well, Kyle Gibson has to feel safe. Unless he pitches rotten in his next outing. Nolasco has had two okay starts at Cedar Rapids, so he needs a place to come back and a roster spot needs to be made.

But when do the Twins fix the bullpen, and find more at bats for Nunez and Herrmann!

They need to fix the bullpen soon.

As for your second point...

Just stopped in to check the game-  saw 3.1 innings for May and got more than a little scared...

As for the Bull (Sht*t) pen, kind of wondering when the Boyer Experiment will be over, and the Stauffer Experiment, and maybe the Theilbar Experiment for the time-being, anyway.

It was sure a treat watching Felix Hernadez pitch. He is always ready to field his position after he releases the ball. May is almost turned around. I miss pitchers fielding their position. I hope May is OK. 103 on the elbow has got to do some damage.

Please just admit your mistake already TR and put the damn trees back in center field, I can't handle much more of this!

Even after getting knocked out of his homecoming start by a Kyle Seager line drive off his pitching elbow, the Twins right-hander was upbeat about his chances of taking his next turn on Thursday at home against the Chicago White Sox.

“Absolutely,” May said after his 10-out start, half of them by strikeout.  “At this point I fully expect to be right back on track. It’s probably going to be a little sore tomorrow. It’s something we’ll just have to address (Sunday) and see how it feels.”

May said the ball hit him “a little bit on the forearm side on the back side of the arm.” There was discoloring at first, but after icing it he said it “looked a lot better already,” just a couple of hours after taking the blow.

I wonder if he still feels that way this morning or if he wasn't acting on a little ice, 150 friends and family members and the immediacy of the injury.

Felix is great and it's fun watching greatness.

I read somewhere today that May said he didn't even see the ball until it was about 3 feet away from him. Definitely not good fielding position, and that's a little alarming if it had been toward his head.

Well said, JB. That's gotta be tender for a couple days and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets pushed back or misses a start. Though it's anybody's guess now how the Twins would shuffle their rotation if he does need time.

Also some other good nuggets in that link.

There were definitely some balls that could have been called strikes in the 1st inning.   What I really like about May so far is that his pitches that are called balls are pretty close to the zone.   Last year his waste pitches weren't even close.    Too bad about the injury.   Very rare for something like this happening to a Twin and then it being no big deal.    Hope this is the time.

Molitor said May "feels better than he expected to feel." Did not play catch today. Will probably try Monday.

Apparently the Baseball Gods want to subject us to Ricky Nolasco some more.  Any thoughts on what we did to deserve such wrath?

That is an easy one. Elected Al Franken and Jesse Ventura.

Trevor May threw with no issues today. Said he's 100 percent after taking a comebacker near his elbow.

Good news for Trevor and the Twins!

(I know there is a band in there somewhere)

I was going to go with "Employed Drew Butera as a professional baseball player"

I believe that was a form of affirmative action, was it not?

Because we didn't hire Torey Lovullo.
