  1. I think he should. I think his hitting would improve too. If his knee is so bad he can't play OF it's probably a problem hitting too. After all, he hasn't really performed well enough at the plate to warrant a full time DH position IMHO.
  2. I don't really have a problem with signing Vazquez. He is still a very good catcher, and has hit OK till joining the Twins. Gallo I was shocked. I don't know what they were expecting giving him that kind of money, but they got what Gallo has become. One thing I've noticed though, some of the hitters we trade away suddenly can hit! Is this an indication of the way our coaching staff is working with these guys?

    2nd half moves

Yes I do consider it a failure. With the pitching we have we should be well above that record.
  4. All the pitching in the world isn't much help when you expect them to give up 1 run or less, as is happening with this horrible lineup!

On the hitting side, the philosophy the FO seems to embrace has led to a "Total System Failure". Can they admit to this?
  6. I can't agree with moving Polo to 3rd. Instead I would move him to 1st. Let him get his reps at 1st while on a rehab. Keep Julian at 2nd, move AK int LF. If they can't (or won't) dump Gallo then split time with Kepler in right. Move Solano to 3rd. At least he can hit.
  7. The hitting philosophy of "drive the ball" is just not working similar to how the "pitch to contact" philosophy didn't work. Yet the FO adds more of the same and the coaching staff keeps teaching the same. Something must change. Coaches need to go, if the FO wants to stay they must admit failure and do an about face to get rid of some people. Even us fans knew Gallo was a mistake, yet here he is, taking up a roster spot! The BP has a couple of dependable arms and a bunch of daily guesses. Yet none of the FO or coaches will call them out. Total system failure!
  8. Some kind of personnel changes must be made. I think a coach or 2 and maybe Rocco should get the boot. In addition, I would approach Polo about switching to 1st base, either him or Julian should be moved over. Moving Polo might be easier on his legs, and he could get some serious reps om his rehab assignment. Move AK into OF. Try to trade (or even DFA) Gallo. I also wonder if Buxton is hurt so bad, why is he playing? Either put him on IL or play him in the OF, at least 3-5 days per week. Free up the DH spot for Wallner. Much cheaper than Gallo. Its time for a change, and at this point I'd say lets let some of the kids play. What can it hurt? May even breath a little spark back into this total failure of a lineup!
  9. Had to do a double take when I saw Carlos Silva's name. I thought he would be awfully old to be pitching again, then I realized it was a hitter.
  10. The league has done a lot to make sure the calls on the field are correct. Now is the time do fix the balls and strikes call. Bring on the ABS system next year! Its got to be getting harder for HP umps now that these pitchers are throwing with so much velocity.
  11. There is so much blame to go around this team I can't pin point it just on Rocco. The FO is so stuck on the "Drive the ball" philosophy they don't look at things like contact rates, which leads to a team poised to shatter the MLB team K rate. They won't move on from players that have been sub avg. for years, because on the few occasions they hit the ball, its hit well. The hitting coach is failing to connect with the players, or he is so off target, they want to conduct their own hitters meetings, Looks to me like a team pretty much void of real leadership from the FO on down.
  12. 2 strike approach much better. Taking shorter swings to make better contact, and some even discovered there is more than just the pull side. What a revelation! Now the test becomes can they carry it forward?
  13. Very well put! As hard as the pitchers are throwing these days just meeting the ball and squaring it up is going to give a batter chance of something good happening. How much good does the strikeout do?
  14. With the construction of the Twins it will be hard for them to be competitive. They need a major shakeup right away!
  15. I am so sick of the term "drive the ball". I maintain the most important part of hitting is getting on base, and being able to run well enough to come around to score. What i keep hearing is drive the ball and then start seeing these guys swing out of their shoes trying to go yard. Where has that gotten this team? On pace to set a new strikeout record. How many runs can score when you strikeout? As hard as these pitchers throw these days, just meeting the ball square gives a guy a decent chance for success. IMHO, that's what the coaches should be stressing!
  16. I'd add getting rid of the big mistake, Gallo. That way you could call up Wallner and Larnach. Also, we keep hearing how bad Buxton's knee is. Its gotta be awfully hard to hit when you don't have both legs under you. And if I remember right, its his right knee, which would be his "push off" leg. If it is that bad put him on the IL and let it heal. Its not like he has been a difference maker this year, and that would free up another spot on the roster. Unless they turn it around, the coaching staff needs to go in the off season. I'd like to see a manager with some experience hired this time.
  17. He needs to be dropped down in the lineup. IMO hitting 7th or 8th.
  18. There just isn't anything good that can happen when they strikeout! Put the ball in play and there is at least a chance something good will happen!
  19. I agree that Rocco should go. But the FO has to take a big share of the blame for the construction of the team. There mantra of picking up hitters based on how they drive the ball is fine for the heart of the lineup, but you need guys with OBA to set the table. And the strikeouts! Look at in zone contact rate and its shameful. Time for Kepler and Gallo to go to make room for Larnach and Wallner. They should also be working on moving Julien to 1st base. When Polo comes back, send Julien down to work exclusively at 1st. The kids are just plain better at this point then the Vets.
  20. I've always liked Lopez. I hope some of the issue so far is getting adjusted to the move, along with pretty bad defense behind him. BTW, at the beginning of the season wasn't the team expected be a top half defensive team? And what about an outfield that was supposed to be one of the best?
  21. They seem to be on a good path with the pitching (at least starters) but they need to tweak their approach to hitting. They have built a team to "drive the ball" but have forgotten in order to drive the ball you first must hit the ball. There is nothing wrong with a few guys that can get on base and run so the guys can drive them in (if they hit the ball).
  22. Depends on the cost. Twins have traded away a lot of their young assets recently, and with the way the team is playing this year I would be cautious about losing high quality prospects, and I would guess that's what it would take.
  23. The FO has built this team based on hitting for power and HR's. They need more speed and better clutch hitters, with some idea of a 2 strike approach.
