  1. according to Google the avg. exit velocity in MLB is about 92
  2. I guess it comes down to what is consider well hit. In todays game IMO well hit is 90-95 and above.
  3. I agree that the lack of K's could be a real problem. But I'm not going to judge from1 outing. On the positive side, there were only a few well hit balls, most were soft contact. As a matter of fact, I can't remember ever seeing so many "scratch" hits in 1 game, and I've been watching MLB for over 60 years. Time will tell what can truly be expected from Keuchel.
  4. I have had both knees replaced over the last 10 years so I know quite well how it feels. If his knee(s) are that bad it probably is time to retire.
  5. Buxton doesn't seem to be a DH type of player. IMO not playing in the field has messed with his head. The trial period of him as full time DH should be over. The whole purpose was to keep him healthy. Since that didn't work, its time to put him back in the OF and let him play til he gets hurt again. Broken Byron just seems to be the norm.
  6. Looking at the history of this FO I'm guessing they pick up the option. I just hope he didn't get badly hurt last night by the HBP in the foot.
  7. We have been lucky to see some very talented players for the Twins, and Mauer ranks right up there with Harmon, Tony O. Rodney, and Kirby.
  8. To be clear, I'm not saying bench the guy, I'm simply saying move him down in the lineup. IMO having a guy prone to DP's isn't an ideal fit hitting in the 2 hole behind a guy with a high OBA.
  9. There has got to be a serviceable replacement in the minors. But this management team can't see the trees through the forest. A veteran presence can't be an advantage when said veteran is so bad. When Lewis gets back they should DFA Gallo and move Polo to 1st IMO.
  10. Putting Correa in the #2 slot is foolish. He hits so many hard grounders that with a guy on 1st are automatic DP's. I'd drop him down to 7 or 8.
  11. I've never seen so many scratch hits in one game, and I also can't remember seeing as many stolen bases in a game.
  12. Gallo has been one of baseball's worst hitters for two consecutive seasons. Yet he starts almost every day against righties, and takes up a roster spot that should be used for a player that can contribute. Time to admit they missed and cut ties. The hitting philosophy seems to be an all or nothing approach, and that is resulted in a bottom third of the league offense. The grand plan for Buxton at DH has been another miscalculation, and batting him and Correa at the top of the order has been a disaster Great that we finally have a really good starting 5, but to ignore the bullpen this past off season was another huge mistake. Might be time to look at the talent evaluators.
  13. OPS seems to have gotten so popular now. But look at a couple of other stats. On base % Twins rank #20. Avg. #21. Sure they rank in top half (barely at #13) in slugging, but if you don't get on base it is usually tough to win. As someone said solo homers don't beat you.
  14. IMO the FO didn't want to give up any of the top youngsters in the minors. 1 or 2 guys just wasn't enough to do much for this team. I think they are looking at a bunch of young hitters coming along in the next 1-3 years that will be the core of the lineup. The thing I just can't understand is why Gallo is still on the roster, much more starting every day.
  15. Maybe the FO should be on the list. After all they put this team together with its all or nothing hitting style.
  16. I would have let Gray try to get thru the 8th to save Jax. We will probably (hopefully) need him this weekend. Glad to see Julian and Wallner get some AB's against a lefty!
  17. I'm disappointed with the managements failure to adjust their hitting philosophy. This "all or nothing, swing for the fences" is so wide spread that IMO must be getting pushed for. The Gallo signing is an example. History showed a guy that was a sub .200 hitter that could hit the ball a long way (when he hit it). History also showed he had quickly been going down hill for at least the last year an a half. Yet they sign him to a large contract, keep running him out most every day, and not releasing him to make room for other hitters. Not to mention the amount of other LH outfielders in the system. I do however understand them not making any significant moves at the deadline.
  18. I agree that this team doesn't seem able or willing to make adjustments at the plate. IMO Correa looked like he was starting to make some adjustments when he moved to leadoff, but recently he looks like he's back to swinging for the fences. He has to realize that he is not a true power hitter and settle for line drives using the entire field.
  19. Another infielder. So looking into the future we have Lewis, Lee, Julian, Martin AK, Polo, and Miranda. Looks like they better get some of these guys ready to play OF and clear up the DH spot.
  20. To me it looks like not playing in the field has messed with his head. IMO the guy gets hurt at DH, might as well either put him on IL or put him in the field. From all reports Lewis will be back soon, and the DH spot will be needed for players that can hit. I have no idea what is ailing with his knees, hips or basically lower body, but its on him and the team to figure out a reasonable solution. Maybe he can't be the gold glove centerfielder he was, but he can play an adequate OF that's where he needs to be.
  21. He had to be maybe the best hitting catcher of all time, certainly of his time. One of the best to wear a Twins uniform.
  22. I believe he has around 130 IP which is just shy of his career high which I believe was just under 150 last year. Still young though in todays game these guys just don't pitch a lot of innings anymore.
  23. Looks like a tired arm. Either move him to the pen, put him on IL, or option him to St. Paul for a couple weeks.
