  1. I am very interested to see how Rocco handles the staff this year. Last year the bullpen was overused, mostly because of 2 guys that had a hard time getting thru the 5th, but also partly due to the "3 times thru the lineup" decisions Rocco made.
  2. Manfred Man rule is the worst rule change ever! I could go for it maybe in the 12th or 13th inning, but even then it stinks! They want to tinker with rules bring in the electronic strike zone.
  3. IMO Ober should be in the pen, at least until we need another starter. He would lengthen the pen and with something deceptive about his delivery, should be very good there. Going 2 innings or so a couple times a week would also reduce the injuries, which there is a history of for him.
  4. I have to see Gallo for at least the first month or two before I have an opinion. Was kind of surprised they signed him for that much at the time. Now I guess we'll see what happens.
  5. I agree that the starters should be able to go longer this year. Now the question becomes if Rocco has enough confidence to let them pitch longer, or if he still thinks a fresh relief pitcher has a better chance. Last season he was caught between a rock and a hard place that way, though IMO he was persuaded to heavily by stat sheets and odds etc. He should have the horses this year, will he let them run?
  6. IMO his stats will improve at Target field just due to the ballpark, if he stays healthy of course.
  7. I hate to say it, but I agree he probably won't be a 1st ballot entry. He surely belongs in the hall though and IMO will get in because he was hands down the best catcher of his generation. Look how long Tony O had to wait. Mauer shouldn't wait that long, but so few guys get in on the 1st ballot I would say probably not.
  8. All we can do is hope it works well. Hate to see a guy with so much potential go down. That said, IMO it would be foolish not to have a solid back up plan in case it doesn't go so well.
  9. On paper at least, it looks like the Twins have a good team to start. I can't wait to see how the season goes. If they have another losing season it is time to get rid of Rocco. He has the horses this year, so lets see how he does!
  10. Need to see how handles more innings in AAA. I also have concerns about his durability. So young and that leads me to believe he has room for more improvement.
  11. I'm hoping a healthy Mahle also shows improvement due to not pitching in Cin.
  12. So much hype and promise for a guy that hasn't even pitched an inning in the minors yet. Seems a bit high in the rating to me.
  13. IMO, put Ober in there rather than any of those mentioned above!
  14. At least they have a better chance of being healthy in April, and hopefully they can hold their own against NY and Hou.
  15. Speed is something that can't be taught. Once again, we hear the Twins trying to groom more power out of a player. I wonder if with his speed they should work more on getting him on base?
  16. I seem to remember a long time ago Gaetti had some problems at 3rd, but hard work turned him into a darn good fielder. This what coaches ar for, to help him improve. Though I don't have a very high opinion of the coaching staff, I think they should be able to work with him. Just give the guy a chance. If we get a couple months in they will know if he can be at least adequate.
  17. I'm not too worried about Correa. He has a strong arm and is "baseball smart". Polo will probably have to range further than ha has since his move to 2B, but so far he has good range (if his legs hold up). Haven't seen enough of Miranda or Farmer to guess about them.
  18. I'm struck by the fact that 150 IP is the highest total for the Twins. That is Pitiful!
  19. Polo is one of the few Twins I feel will come thru in the clutch. He's proved himself for years now, I don't think of him being under rated and I don't think many true fans do.
  20. An Arraez with speed is a good thing IMO. Lets not forget how a guy with speed on 1st base can mess with a pitcher. Now factor in the larger bases and new throw over rule, and I acn see a very valuable player, So please Twins coaches, just let the guy hit. Forget about pushing him to change into a slugger. Square pegs into round holes usually just don't work!
  21. I agree that on paper at least this team looks to be improved over last season. Unfortunately, the game is played on the field, not paper. Too many little rule changes and tweaks that could change the outcome over expectations though.
  22. When with the Twins I remember him as a reliable starter. At the time the talk was about the knuckle curve. Gone are the days of 300 IP. These days 200 IP is rare. Seeing the totals some of the "old timers" pitched, makes a guy think maybe todays pitchers could be pushed a bit further.
  23. Just read they signed A. Sanchez to a minor league deal.
  24. On paper the staff looks pretty good. However, the game isn't played on paper. As we saw last season things can change in a blink of an eye. I am still hoping to turn Ober into a reliever as I see his "stuff" playing well there. I feel Varland and SWR will be good MLB pitchers eventually but I also feel they will need to take their lumps in the growing stage. Not so sure about Balzavic though. I hope last year was just an off year but who knows?
  25. I've been saying for over a year that Ober should be in the pen. He would form a great 1-2 punch with Jax as 2 inning guys.
