Minnesota Twins Hitter of the Month: August 2026

Given what they did at the trade deadline, August was an important one for the Twins to stay in the playoff race. Unfortunately, they went 10-17, and their playoff hopes have faded a bit. The month saw a pair of major-league debuts from top prospects, though, in Kaelen Culpepper and Walker Jenkins. Jenkins played four games in the month, so that wasn’t a big enough sample size to be considered for Twins Daily's hitter of the month nod, but maybe in September, he can claim the prize. 

Culpepper had a great first 20 games of his big-league career, wherein he had three home runs, three doubles and a slash line of .314/.372/.486. Another honorable mention goes to Josh Bell, who had a very solid .824 OPS with four home runs and 20 RBIs. 

While Culpepper and Bell were worthy, hwoever, this month’s standout performance for a hitter has to go to Luke Keaschall, who put up a marvelous .337/.416/.571 slash line. That's outright elite production. He had five home runs and eight doubles, to go along with three stolen bases. 

Keaschall appears to be getting more and more comfortable at the plate. He’s cemented himself, at least for now, in the leadoff role, regardless of which hand the opposing starter throws with on any given day.  His defensive struggles have been widely discussed, as he has played mostly in center field and right field in recent weeks. With Walker Jenkins up and Byron Buxton still around, it's safe to assumed Keaschall will play mostly right the rest of the way. His future role, though, might in left. 

Regardless of defensive position, if Keaschall continues to hit like this, Derek Shelton will have to put him in the lineup. The hope is that he will be able to get more comfortable at a defensive position and be slotted into the leadoff spot more often. He may be destined for designated hitter duties in the future, but I would guess the Twins will give him a long leash to see if he can become a passable defender in a corner outfield spot. 

Keaschall continuing to hit like he did the past two months will be key to the Twins making a run at a playoff spot, if it does happen. Here’s hoping the rest of the lineup can be good enough around him to make that at least somewhat plausible. 

There's much to be excited about with Keaschall’s future, regardless of his defensive position, because he does so many things so well on offense. He will be a nuisance for many AL Central pitching staffs, as long as he continues to have at-bats like the ones he's had in recent months.

I see all the angst about Keaschall’s defense. People forget that Tony Gwynn was a pretty crappy defender when he came up and eventually became a Gold Glover. Keaschall seems like the kind of guy who will do the work to improve on that side of the ball.

Give the young man a defensive home going into the offseason, let him stay there and work on it. The bat can play!

I guess the rest of the line up was so bad we don't get a traditional countdown.  Just a quickie article to get it out there.  

Keaschall is this generations Dan Gladden but good.  They do have a similar power output and speed.  Opposite average and on base skills.  I do agree that Keaschall needs a defensive position and will get better with work.

It's September. It's still not "Carantini," Mr. Dazzle. Last night I heard him say Dingler threw the ball into right field when it happened and he was doing play-by-play and then into center field when summarizing it in the postgame show. Urgh.

Keaschall is definitely on a 2 month heater. Brutal start to the season. Strange power outage in June. But crushing it in July & August. Deserving winner.

But Culpepper sure looks like he'll get a few of these hitter of the month" awards. Heck of a start to the MLB career.

Who is the Twins defender of the month? Definitely not Keaschall.

Agreed. I would love to see Shelton put those two back to back in the 1-2 spots in the Order. Lee can hit 5 or 6. I would start tonight.

He has not been consistent. -1 OAA for August. I hope that isn’t their best defensive performance. That would be sad.

This is going to sound crazy, but if the Twins can get hot and somehow sneak into the playoffs, he'll probably get some down-ballot MVP votes.... deservedly

Keasch definitely got into the Detroit pitcher's head while Keasch was on base. Jumping all around, stealing 2nd base ,then jumping around while Clemens was at bat. I loved it. Pitchers who say that they don't pay any attention to that type of stuff, are liars.

Oh my goodness. I did not know that. Why is that? Lack of range? Errors,? Poor positioning? Errant throws? His arm strength looks strong to my eyes.  What do you think specifically has caused his below average OAA for August? How did I miss this? I am not worthy.

I love the expression that Keasch plays ball like a man with his air on fire. He is constantly in motion.  He is a pest for the opposing pitchers.  In summation, he hustles.

He has booted a few balls. That’s really all it takes to have a below average month. The best MLB SS won’t have an error in a month. He has average SS tools but needs to clean things up.

It is but the #9 hitter gets a lot fewer ABs over the course of the season than the #2 hitter, so I'd prefer Culpepper in the 2 hole with Jenkins 9 and Keaschall 1.

Jenkins has a much better pedigree as a hitter. Results are still small sample size for both.

The Twins have a pretty consistent lineup right now. Rearranging it won’t matter much. Check back in later.
