Buxton home run was a 930 xBa but 30/30 parks.

You trying to tell me 7% of 414ft line drives are caught?

Sometimes modern analytics aren't well thought out.

For a long time UZR (which Fangraphs still uses for defense for fWAR to this day) made no adjustments for ballpark. Just divided fields into "zones."  But the zones were the same for every ball park. A ball hit off the wall at Fenway in left might be considered "should have been caught" because it was only 340 feet from home plate. Even though it hit 15 feet up the wall.

They've since made some adjustment to that, but still. Stupid.

I like data but outliers like that keep me from taking it very seriously.

Is it somehow possible that this white Sox club is just as bad if not worse than 2024? You’d think it impossible

They seem to be slightly better in the field. Otherwise, could be just as bad everywhere else.

I don't know. Did they add much?

In any event, the Twins win again. Doing their job.

I’ve seen that their AAA and AA teams are highly rated, for what it’s worth. Probably just biding time until some of those guys come up. They were 3-21 after 24 games last year and 5-19 now. Improvement!

While playing college ball, I once had a line drive hit at me that I almost (but thankfully did not) got to.

You know what happened to that ball? Went over CF wall. By a lot.

Like a lot of us older fellas, I suffered through the early 80s, 82 especially. But even through that, you could see it coming, Hrbek, Gaetti, et. al.  The young guys were showing something, then came that 84 run.  I don't get that same feeling looking at the Sox.
