A good win. I was impressed with Ober's ability to battle through 6 when he wasn't at his best and had wobbled through the early innings. He kept it together and didn't let things get out of hand and we squeezed out just enough runs to get over.

While the offense wasn't exactly sharp, they did do well in getting runners on base and taking walks. 6 in a game is good work, and getting the go-ahead through against Yates is impressive: he's been really really good this season. But walks will haunt you...

Congrats to Kyle Farmer, who has been very sharp since coming back off the IL. It's been a rough season for him, but sure would be nice if he stays hot down the stretch and punishes LHP.

Nice win Twins.  Let's keep it going.

ALERT!!!  Byron Buxton is on the injured list again.  My goodness.  Some people think the Twins season is doomed.  For 8 of his 9 seasons we have seen Buxton spend more time on IL than on the field.  Who isn't sick of this?  Yes he was playing well when he plays.  But he is just a (injured) shell of all the hype and promise.  The Twins have done quite well when he is gone.  Go Twins!

I'm not sure what you mean?

I think almost everybody recognizes Buxton will never have a full season or a particularly healthy one, right? He's got chronic back issues, chronic hip issues, migraines, and after his last couple surgeries, he's expected to have chronic knee inflammation. Those issues are never going away. They're chronic health problems for him while his job is to be a professional athlete. He's also dealt with some wrist issues, and he's like any other player when it comes to other potential acute injuries.

If your expectation is higher than 80 games a year for Buxton, well, I think you're going to be disappointed most years. If your expectation is 100+ games a year, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment because that's unreasonable. He's played 90 games this year already, and he'll probably hit 100 games this year while accruing the most plate appearances he's made since 2017, and he's also been productive. That's a huge win for him and the Twins based on reasonable expectations.

Buxton is what he is. Accepting what he is and resetting your expectations would probably help eliminate some of the annoyance you feel, I think. It feels like you're still in the belief Buxton could play a 150 game season or put together a run on an MVP or something? That's just not going to happen. He's a valuable player who you can count on for a 3-4 WAR partial season. I'm thankful last year's production wasn't decline and he's still able to help the Twins while he's on the field this year. His contract is a major burden on the payroll limits the Pohlads seem to have set, and the Twins have exactly zero quality replacements for him on the roster. The Twins need Buxton to perform at his best for those 80 games a year.

What is the status of ERod?  He has been on the MILB IL since 6/7, went on rehab 7/6 and last game was 7/8.  Why hasn't he been put on the 60 day IL, with Keirsey added to the 40 man and 26 man rosters.  I would rather have a left handed true center fielder against a LH pitcher than pushing Martin into that position.  In 100 chances in the outfield Martin has a -5 OAA (Margot has a -4 OAA).   For a team that values defense, to me this doesn't make sense.

IMHO, they did the right thing putting him on the 10-day IL for a maintenance break going into a road trip against non-divisional teams.  It's better that having him be day-to-day or taking up DH PAs that would result in Miranda on the bench while Martin or Margot are out in CF.

I want Buck healthy in September when the Twins have to travel to KC, Cleveland and Boston.

Twins are 15 games over .500 (WC#2) when Buck plays and exactly .500 (outside-looking-in) when he doesn't.

Go Twins!!

Twins are saying that the reason for the IL stint is because they are not sure he would be able to play the next five or six games.   With a seven-game road trip ahead, they thought it would be wise to carry as many able bodies as they could.   All indications are that he should be able to go when they get back home.

He was in the minor leagues at the time of the injury. Someone will state this better but I don’t think he can be put on a major league 60 day IL from the minors.

The Twins may have been able to call him up at the time and then put him on major league IL eventually moving him to the 60. That would have had service time implications that they would want to protect in order to maximize the time they have him under their control. It would also have taken great foresight that the injury would be a 60 day injury. In any case I am not sure that it would have been allowable to put him on the major league roster in order to put him on the 60 day IL. Assuming it would have been allowable, it still doesn’t seem a wise use of his service time.

This begs the question - Is Ober now the Ace?

Ober 12 - 5 3.52 O,96 Whip 128 Innings

Lopez 11 - 8 4.67  1.15 135

Both are 28.  I like Ober's consistency.

But then up and coming - Richards - age 23  3-3 3.76 1.18 Whip 102

Ryan is 7 - 7 3.60 0.98 135 innings

Nice to have so many choices!

Can Zebby, Festa or Varland compete with these stats?

And if you are wondering Paddack had higher era and whip than any of the first four.

Make sure you don’t cross SWR up with Richards, there will be an uprising.

I think you are right about the fact that at this point, they have decent young depth, even after guys going down with injuries.

Lopez will remain at the Top of the rotation until he stumbles in real meaningful Playoff game……IMO.

There was some buzz yesterday about Texas waiving a bunch of arms……I was excited about 1 guy (didn’t see it happening) for the Twins to try & jump upon. K. Yates….,,after 2 walks & a Wild Potch last night in the 9th….I think we’re good!

Grass is always greener with the NEW guy.

Win totals and RBI.  Both meaningless stats. It has to be woba or fwar or ops+or- My personal favorite is fubar of course. Go Bailey. Get to 20.

Somewhat agree - however, if he’s got 12 Wins now and 9 starts left …..8 more Wins would mean way more than any other associated stats!!

Thanks for the explanation.

That shouldn’t keep them from DFAing someone and calling on Keirsey if he would be an above average major league center fielder at the major league level. That he hasn’t been called on leads me to think he probably isn’t at that level. His Fangraphs field and arm scout scores of 45 show him to be below the major league average of 50. Those scores are for a OF and the bar for center field is probably higher. They may also be out of date.

I thought the sabermetric fubar would be a dead giveaway.
