SwainZag Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Looks like they are giving up SS Jay Harry, last year's 6th round pick. glunn 1
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 At first blush, seems like a puzzling move. Kinda pedestrian numbers, with not good velo ; he does have the best xERA of the last 3 years, but the worst FIP and xFIP. K rate has plummeted, without the bb rate going with it. He’s 31, does have an additional year of control, and is right handed, but with some reverse splits. Feels more like insurance in case Stewart and/or Topa aren’t healthy. If they are—Duran, Jax, Stewart, Alcala, Sands, and Topa are all superior options I think, so I’m not sure why they traded for a guy who’s 7th at best in a healthy pen, other than as mentioned, injury insurance. Not sad at all to be without him in the organization, I just don’t understand the move, other than I guess to say they did something. USAFChief 1
CRF Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 This is a nothing burger move. Just to "show" that they actually made a move to try and improve the team at the deadline.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 This guy was actually pretty good. In 2021. glunn and Danchat 2

But I'm quite confident there's not a soul in the Twins PR staff that would dare to make the fans think this is anything other than quarter step up from a waiver wire move. glunn 1
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 84 ERA+, -0.4 WAR… ugh. And not even a lefty. Was hoping for at least a Michael Fulmer level of reliever. glunn 1

Edit: Nope, looks like the Red Sox have his rights while he's out for the year. glunn 1
Twinsfreak23 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 This guy doesn't even deserve a roster spot. And I'm pissed this is the best they could manage so far. However.. looking at the price that was paid for Tanner Scott by SD, I can sort of understand why they didn't pull the trigger on something like that. Prices right now at this deadline for pitching seem to be bordering on absurd. glunn 1

Azviking101 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 They DFAd Staumont for this guy. Staumont was obviously over performing but his metrics are all better lol They’re actively making this team worse

Ummm, you are saying you couldn't find anyone to trade Staumont to for a prospect in a sellers market?
Irishman Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 This trade didn’t wow me at all. Very disappointing! FO could h done better this trade. Very depressing! I gave F to FO and ownership.

I was comparing when we traded for Fulmer at the deadline, not him at this very moment. That was seen as a lesser move and only cost Sawyer-Gipson, this is… almost a DFA trade.
