Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 In the latest trade roundup from The Athletic, Ken Rosenthal, Katie Woo, and Patrick Mooney wrote that the Nationals are preparing to sell. While Washington is playing decently this season (42-49), they're a whopping 16.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies and 5.5 games out of a contentious National League Wild Card spot. They didn't expect to compete this year and feel as if they're a year ahead of schedule and PoBO Mike Rizzo feels selling is the right decision at this trade deadline. The Nationals have several interesting right-handed relievers that could interest the Twins. On expiring contracts, they have Dylan Floro (179 ERA+) while they have two relievers who become free agents after the 2025 season: Hunter Harvey (183 ERA+) and Kyle Finnegan (184 ERA+). Starting pitcher Trevor Williams is expected to return from injury soon. He will also become a free agent at season's end and over 11 starts has a 2.22 ERA. Of course, the Nationals also have a Twins fan favorite rostered and available in trade, Joey Gallo. View full rumor

twinfan Verified Member Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 The Twins need a starter. I think someone not mentioned is Jameson Taillon if the Cubs are willing to trade. They need hitting and we need pitching. Why not put a package together?
LambchoP Verified Member Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 None of these guys. We need a playoff caliber starter and a lefty handed reliever. If we can get those, I'd be happy with our deadline. If we can get anything for Farmer and/or Margot, then all the better. Doctor Gast and TopGunn#22 2
TopGunn#22 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 There will be a lot of names tossed out into the buffet of players available come the trade deadline. Some will be too costly, some too risky, some a little too hot, some a little too cold. In the buffet of names that have been listed I'm being a little choosey. I don't like anything on the buffet yet but I'm happy to keep looking.
cmoss84 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Do you guys know Jake Irvin? He's like...really good. And cheap. *crickets* *crickets* He's also from Bloomington! Shs_2 1

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I'll take a reliever, but I don't want ONLY a reliever. I still think this team needs a starter that makes the other playoff teams take notice; I realize there may not be such a pitcher available this year. Looking at Irvin, I don't see why I'd want him on the mound in October over what the Twins currently have. Front line playoff starters get strikeouts, he doesn't. Mike Sixel and Cory Engelhardt 2
RpR Verified Member Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 There was an online article very recently, Washington have decided to keep Gallo and work on making him more like he was. No yard sale really.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 On 8/22/2024 at 10:36 AM, Giffer said: I think the Twins should definitely look into Hunter Harvey. His numbers are impressive, and adding a strong right-handed reliever could really bolster our bullpen for the playoff push. I’ve seen him pitch a few times, and he’s got the kind of stuff that can lock down late innings. Plus, with team control through 2025, he’s not just a rental. As for Joey Gallo, it would be a nostalgic move, but I’m more interested in strengthening the bullpen than bringing back familiar faces. Thoughts? Hunter Harvey is a Kansas City Royal. And on the IL. And the trade deadline passed a month ago.
