It'll be interesting to see how the analytics age adjusts to the shorter timeframe in which to reference said analytics.  A good manager is always a step ahead anyway, but there's got to be some adjusting to do with a quicker pace of play.

The computer doesn't dictate anything. The computer merely provides information for a manager to use when a decision is made.

Unless I missed it, Rocco didn't say anything about changing how he handles both starting pitchers and the bullpen. That could be the key to the entire season. IMO...he gets an "F" for last year.

There aren't any great analytics that supports a negative report on the baseball acumen of Rocco Baldelli. I have been a frequent critic of how the Twins have fared according to my own analytics of rating fundamental baseball. The personal decisions of any manager are directly tied to the talent on hand and their ability to accomplish specific skills. The current Twins roster has fair depth and and improved athleticism, even if it may be slight. The specter of health hovers above the roster and frightens the Twins faithful and restrains their expectations and optimism to a degree.

Rocco has a new team in 2023. Rocco was an exciting player and loved the fundamental side of the game as well as the speed game, where he stood out as a young man. He hasn't forgotten his love of playing nor of the type of game he excelled at in his career. Rocco has had to learn quite a bit about resiliency and taking criticism.

The Twins had a sad summer as far as attendance is concerned in 2022. The entire Twins organization knows that there needs to be a turn for the better this coming season. Falvey, Baldelli, and the players have been given the message to produce a better more entertaining product this season. Rocco will be fine.

The 1st year that Baldelli was manager, there was the juiced ball which the focus on HR made a lot sense. But the next 3 yrs. the dead ball reigned, so the focus should have taken off HRs & onto fundamentals.

All those trends has to change, and change a lot especially due to the rule changes.

We can only hope so.

Rocco’s (or any Twins’ manager given our small to mid-market positioning) two primary objectives are: a) be an above average in-game manager whose day-to-day managerial decisions on the field lead to more net wins than losses; and b) demonstrably develop his players - most importantly, the young talent he’s given from our minor league system - into the best major leaguers they can be.

We shall see if Rocco can make the necessary adjustments - whether though his style or staff - to meet those objectives. At least he seems to admit changes are needed.

Yes it's true that as a previous poster said the computer doesn't manage.  But when it's obvious that Rocco seldom changes what the computer " recommends" it is dictating the game most of the time.  Rocco needs to prove he can manage and not have his computer spread sheets dictate his game.  Rocco is very poor at handling pitching staff, fundamentals, and in game adjustments.  Twins have made several important additions this season.  Maybe for once Rocco will be held accountable for his management " skills".  I'm hoping it's in a positive way and leading the Twins to the playoffs.  Go Twins!!

Find and keep players at their position. You can give gfuys a rest from the field by having them DH with a bench of Taylor, Gordon, Farmer and Jeffers. (Who will be the 13th player? Larnach? Wallner?)

Plus, establish a solid lineup and stick with it. Players feed off of knowing the knowing the batter hitting before them. Can see how pitchers pitch to that guy and maybe establ,ish a routine.

And don't push pitchers to get that additional out if they look like they don't have it...today.

Agree with Rosterman that good defense comes from having players working consistently with the same lineup. Having player flexibility was a great thing with all the injuries last year, but it is hard to establish greatness without consistency and repetitions with the same crew. Also well said with the offensive lineup. OK to have a few changes when facing left-hander or junk pitcher vs power hurler, but hard to establish a comfort zone when you are all over the place. It's all part of managing personalities vs the probability controlled version of computerized games. Playing hunches, showing trust in the will of your player to not be beaten. Taking the small risk seldom produces big reward. Teach players to bunt if the defense is playing deep, force them to be honest instead of playing deep or shading toward a base to gain a competitive advantage; much rather see 4 runs off of bunting and base stealing than 2 off the almighty homer. 

Might add to allow pitcher to get extra out or two if he looks like he does have it...today

I'd rather hear he was going to manage 'somewhere else' than 'differently' but I guess this is better than nothing until he is inevitably fired at or near the end of the season
