If anyone has fresh information, please post it here. Thanks. Specifically, the last I've heard about Buxton is that he is expected to return sometime, no dates and no change on his recovery schedule. Larnach--according to the Twins' web site, he was expected to begin a rehab stint somewhere around 9/1, but as far as I know, he has not started a rehab assignment. Jeffers--pretty much the same, again no information that he has started a rehab assignment . Dobnak is on a rehab assignment in St. Paul and Winder is on the active list for the Saints. I haven't heard if there is any change in Mahle's status or if Polanco is ramping up toward being activated. Ober has made two rehab starts in Florida. I have heard nothing further. I read that Polo played catch yesterday (Strib) and that Buxton has NOT resumed "baseball activities" yet (Pioneer Press). Bad sign regarding Buxton. I am also confused by the lack of urgency. Do they expect Ober, Larnach, Jeffers and Buxton to come back the last week of the season and play flawless baseball and carry the team to the title? I got news for you: they're all going to be rusty as heck and I'd imagine that - aside from Buxton if he returns - they'll all be a detriment to the team for a couple weeks as opposed to being helpful. Zero urgency all year from this team, and now when it's finally time to step on the gas pedal.... there's nobody home.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Hey, I'm with you. I would rather see Ober take the mound Sunday than Sanchez. Or maybe Smeltzer?

He's pitched 42 and 52 pitches in consecutive starts against Low-A competition. Not sure why they didn't move him up sooner if he felt good. Maybe they're concerned his groin could act up after a couple innings and they don't want to risk having to pull him super early in a start with the current bullpen possibly still struggling to recover from the double-header. I'm not sold on Ober being a starter anymore anyway. I don't think he's durable enough.

If the Twins bring back Mahle too soon, they get charged with malpractice by some of the TD crowd. If they bring them back "too slow" others complain. Let the medical people do their job and bring them back when healthy. After today, I wouldn't rush anyone back, except maybe rushing Wallner and Varland up here to get ready for next year.

And I think I've been vindicated.

LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Hard to see a reason to rush players back at this point. The chances of making a run are very small. Instead, we should use this time to evaluate guys for next year. Varland and Ober should both get 3-4 starts in these last 25 games or so. I also agree that the ABs now going to Cave could be given to Wallner to see if he's ready. Finally, no reason not to play Miranda and Gordon every day unless there is an injury issue. Probably the same for Celestino.

Should we rush Buxton back or any of the guys with arm injuries. It will only make thing worse for the player in the long term. Buxton has been playing with bad knees. What happens is the injury weakness puts more strain on other parts of the body. Just cause you want the team to win doesn't mean they will ruin someone's career in attempt to do it.
Thegrin Verified Member Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 I guess it is a matter of trust. Does Rocco trust Winder or Varland or does he cross his fingers, close his eyes and choose Ober?

Does Rocco trust Winder or Varland or does he cross his fingers, close his eyes and choose Ober? I’m not sure what this means. Rocco is pretty much forced to trust who the FO gives him. Ober will pitch tonight. Not sure if that move has been officially made yet, but Ober has been or will be activated and pitch tonight, and Cotton has been (or will be) dfa’d, again. Varland will probably pitch one of the double header games on Saturday as the extra player. And I assume Winder pitch the other. I haven’t followed who is off the IL and who is still rehabbing, etc
stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 Yep, with their backs to the wall, the Twins go into Cleveland with Ober (just finished injury rehab), Winder and Varland for the first three games of a five-game series.

If these three were all healthy, I like them 150% better than using Archer, Bundy, Smeltzer, etc. Problem is, the most likely scenario is getting 4-5 innings out of each of them then taxing the heck out of your bullpen. Pagan and Megill will pitch this series. They will be the ones to make or break them. Book it.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 Yes, it seems that the rotation has had a member or two ramping up for the entire season plus the limitations placed on Archer. The bullpen will be heavily used and every out is going to be precious. All members of the bullpen will be in line to pitch at crucial times. I don’t hold out a lot of hope, but some chance is better than none.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 BTW, Larnach officially started his rehab last night and Jeffers is scheduled to start his rehab tonight as the DH for the Saints.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I heard in the Sox broadcast that Paddack had a set back and wouldn’t be available until next August … has anyone heard more about this?

The surgery was last May, so anything earlier would be at the very short end of the range of outcomes (12-18), and apparently it being the second such surgery means it usually doesn't come out at the short end. Not sure why this came out now and is "news", instead of back when the surgery was performed. No doubt "wait and see" is the watchword at every step, though.

Well, August isn’t as much of a surprise, it was the words ‘had a setback’ and I was thinking a setback to his whole healing process, that something during recovery went wrong
