His 88 mph fastball isn't working long term. Taking him out of the rotation is part of my reasoning. I'd much rather have Winder in the rotation than as a piggyback. Gray, Ryan, Winder, Archer/Bundy, Smeltzer would be my setup for now. Injuries tend to figure things out so Ober coming back is probably solved by one of those 6 not being available anyways.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Shouldn't this "pitching pipeline" I heard so much about be helping by now?

This offense has disappeared for long stretches of games, let alone innings, all year long. Look. It's not on the offense and it's not Rocco. This is a 3-0 shutout. Bieber stifles the Twins a lot. These 4 inning starts are the problem. It's like a bridge too far
SpicyGarvSauce Verified Member Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 This is going to be one hell of a way to send off Wes Johnson.

I know he's been really good as a starter, but he'd likely be very good as a reliever, and doing so would also help with the problem the team has with him only going 4 innings. Yeah, I'd be good with that, too. Don't know how he'd feel about it, though. I'd love him as a 2 innings guy multiple times a week.

EVERY game this guy starts, it taxes the bullpen...which then affects the next game, and the next game.

The offense deserves plenty of blame as well. They score a lot, or nothing.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Seems like running on Jeffers would be an atypical but wise move here.
CRF Verified Member Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 If by some divine miracle, we go to extras. Does Thorny get the 10th?

I know they are trying to protect Archer but 4 inning starts for a team with a weak bullpen is a MASSIVE problem and a poor game plan.

I don't blame him at all for not being able to go deep in games after all the time he's missed with injuries the last few years. The FO/Wes/Rocco/Whoever not having a plan for the starts they knew would be short from the beginning is the problem. He's pitched very well in his current role and I wouldn't mess with that if I have another choice.
