stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 Well, they got the out without the run scoring, but they allowed the runners to advance to second and third.
Gingernsnap25 Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 Why was Correa not happy when Sanchez threw back to third?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Author Posted April 18, 2022 Twins got the out, but didn't exactly execute the rundown perfectly. After the runner from 2nd went to third, they should've ran Devers back to the bag and tagged both of em.

Perhaps you're not aware- Willians Astudillo has struck out only 25 times in his entire mlb career. He's got a career 3.1% strikeout rate. That is a skill you absolutely want in a pinch hitter. He reliably delivered a tough at bat. He struggled when relied upon as a daily starter. I brought his name up in reference to the idea of Nick Gordon coming off the bench to hit. By comparison, Gordon has a 26.1% career strikeout rate and an OPS about 90 points below Astudillo. It's fair to argue for Gordon's glove and future potential, but to claim Willie was likely to strikeout is pretty silly. It was more about the ground ball double play, but he did have some pretty wild swings on occasion. What was his walk rate again? Why would anyone ever throw him a strike?

LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 The last throw in the rundown was completely unnecessary, just walk back to third with the ball and if you don’t know who to tag, tag both

Cuz once the runner from second moved to third you should just run the guy from third back to third. They then have two runners at third, you tag the "lead" runner and he's out. Instead Sanchez risked throwing the ball way or letting the runner get around the throw and score.

Of accidentally trip the runner and give him home on interference/obstruction.

big dog Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 Out of the inning without a run. Who had that in the pool? Oh yeah, none of us

Mill mentioned this, but the Red Sox runner was already on third. Sanchez should have run Devers back to the base and tagged both runners. It worked out okay, but it was a needless throw and then Devers was advancing to the plate.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 Four runs doesn't mean the bats are back.

Sanchez made a throw, which carries the risk of an error, allowing potentially two runs to score, as opposed to just forcing two guys to be at third, one of whom be definition will be out. That said, if the runner at third leaves for second, and the runner trying to go home gets back to third, you find yourself in another run-down situation, except now you have to monitor the runner at third as a risk to score if you're not paying attention. Ultimately, I think Sanchez made the right call, as it's more valuable to keep the runner in the run-down between third and home, as opposed to second and third.

I know it is not the way of the modern game, but I personally prefer watching hitters who put the ball in play. As such, I'm thankful for Arraez, and I like the Carlos Correa at-bat I just witnessed.

Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 18, 2022 Author Posted April 18, 2022 Encouraging outing from Bundy, obviously. 13 swings and misses. 32% whiff rate (league average is around 23). 5 on the fastball is really encouraging, and 6 whiffs on the slider on 8 swings. Things didn't go well the third time through, and I don't think he gets the opportunity to try that too often, but the first 10 innings have been better than anyone could've hoped for.

Willians is allergic to being patient, which negates the superior contact rate.
