When you look at it as Simmons Donaldson, Garver, and Rortvedt vs Correa, Urshala, Sanchez.  The Twins gain with Correa over Donaldson and Urshala over Simmons but how much is given back in the Garver over Sanchez.

on the pitching side it would be nice to have a better starter but at least Bundy and Archer have potential.

Also Buxton extension was key too.  Really there should be an A- and B+ options as this is where most were grading the Twins earlier.

The only gain was Correa over Simmons, all the rest are a major loss.?

Didn't we just do this?

I’m not sure. I checked MN Twins Talk and I couldn’t find a poll for this.

There was a discussion article by Ted on main page for grading the offseason.

C

Correa in a vaccuum is a wonderful addition. However, it is head scratching since it's essentially a one year deal and the Twins not only failed to substantially improve their pitching staff but they worsened themselves at 3B and C in the process.

Watching Sano and Sanchez bat in the same inning is likely going to be the death of me so it was nice knowing ya'll.

It's hard to give the front office more than a C grade since the single most obvious problem with the roster was nowhere close to being adequately addressed. Betting the season on unproven young starting pitching is not a formula that is likely to have a high success rate.

I gave them a B. Gray and Correa were fantastic acquisitions and they used some creative trades to make it work.

Acquiring another front of the rotation type pitcher that has good odds of delivering 200 innings of high quality pitching would have made this an A for me.

what kept this from dropping down to a C, was characterized by giving Ryan the opening day nod. The FO seems very confident in Ryan and Ober, and if they are right, that’s a great place to be going forward.

There’s a ton of risk and not near enough innings likely to pitch on 4/5 of the rotation, but the hitters look ready to slug it out.

I went "B" as well but agree, B+, B-, A-, A+ grades would have provided more nuance.  With the re-signing of Buxton and Taylor Rogers, the signing of Correa and trade for Gray, I was leaning "A."  But the failure to address SP in FA when all we had to do was be aggressive, have a plan and spend money was VERY disappointing as a Twins fan.  Imagine Eduardo Rodriguez in the #2 SP slot at $16 million a year for 3-years.  Instead, we're going to need Rosary beads every time Bundy, Archer or whoever pitches.  I don't mind the Urshela/Sanchez for Donaldson/Rortvedt/IKF swap at all.  I'm willing to give it some time.  Although Sanchez's Spring Training isn't helping.  After seeming to have no plan and/or willingness to do anything after getting Buxton extended our FO rebounded with some solid moves.  I'm cautiously optimistic.

How anyone thinks this was not a successful offseason is not looking at what the Twins achieved this offseason.  The took an older catcher whose performance has deteriorated,  a #3 catcher that had some promise,  and aging 3rd baseman with a large contract and netted one of the best players,  and ultimately a major asset that can pay dividends for this team in the long run.  You pull that off you don't have the money to get a #1 pitcher on a contract.  Also this regime appears to be very unwilling to give major money to pitching,  their MO is to build their pitching through the draft and their prospects similar to what the Guardians/Indians did then give the money to the field players which have less injury risk (assuming your name isn't Buxton :)).

We can trade at anytime for a #1 pitcher if it is reasonable value. However, if Archer can stay healthy we may have just found the #1 or #2 pitcher we all wanted for pennies on the dollar.   We will just have to wait and see.  Montas will also likely get traded in the next 24-48 hours is my guess.

Is the offseason over? Let's trade for Bryan Reynolds.

Or Ryan Reynolds.

It's okay.  The FO probably appreciates everyone having to take the same test again.  Grades should improve the second time around, right? :)

I gave them a B.

So did I. Might be evidence that grade inflation is real. We'll see.

Some clever moves this offseason, coupled with a great Buxton extension. We'll soon find out if Donaldson was some kind of anchor on this club, and if they play more cohesively and competitively, that goofy NYY trade will probably seem smart.

I am not a fan of offloading Donaldson, but a full season of Correa is certainly better than 100 games (at most) of Donaldson, and if offloading Donaldson was the price to pay to get St Peter and Pohlad’s blessing, so be it.

If Berrios was still here, or if Maeda were healthy I'd call it an A. Very good moves were made, but they didn't manage to plug all the holes.

EXACTLY this. Gray and Correa would have mad a team with those two really good. Now, they make the team mediocre.
