Whatever is best for the club. It wouldn't be ahrd to find a rental. Then we have to sort out the whole Gordon, Lewis, Polanco and more mess. 

I don't feel Gordon will ever make it. Polanco needs to find a new position.

Not at all and that’s why I’d be more than happy to keep him, but if his ceiling 3-4 WAR player I’d be ok moving him if he could net a 4-6 WAR player.

Maybe it's only ironic to me, but I'm completely humored. We're talking about Luis Arraez, a prospect who, less than six months ago was probably viewed by half the TD community as close to having zero zero value and a zero percent chance of becoming an impact player. And we're talking about Yu Darvish, the consensus top FA prize just two years age, a prize the Twins FO was blamed for going cheap and weak with their bid. And we're talking about a straight up trade.

 

I'm not at all disparaging any viewpoint from the past, just finding it remarkable how fluid player values can be.

 

I know this is just twitter talk out there.

For the record I wanted nothing to do with Darvish back then.

Not following that logic fully.  After 2021 and 2022 the following players all will have hit free agency - Sano, Berrios, Buxton, Rosario.  Only Polanco and Kepler are really locked up past 2022.  So that's basically a 3 year window with a solid core.  If someone is offering a 101 win team the chance to take on Kris Bryant or Contreras for 2 years or all of that 3 year window . . . I'd be surprised if they are not going to listen for a no power 2B, a projectable mid-rotation starter with upside and a contact hitting 1B.  Don't get me wrong, all those guys could turn out to be solid pros.  But the odds say not one of them projects like Bryant has already performed.  I get that mortgaging the farm to a decent extent isn't great.  But how long will it be before the Twins have this sort of core already in the majors.  101 teams are rare.  Teams capable of winning the World Series are rare unless you are the Yankees or Dodgers.  

Maybe some of us aren't enamored with Bryant. Josh Donaldson can be had for a few more million next season and no loss of prospects. Sign Donaldson if you're looking to improve the lineup and use Arraez, Kirrilof and Graterol to acquire an Ace SP, or keep these guys and sign Wheeler or Bumgarner. Or do all of the above.

 

Or more likely than any of this whole talk is watch Falvine sign Tehran and Perez.

I can't imagine the Cubs giving up Darvish for Arraez just to clear cap space unless they are absolutely desperate. It doesn't seem likely given how much they've invested in him unless they are getting ready to do a total rebuild. I work with two hardcore Cubs fans (yeah i know it doesn't mean anything) but they have been saying that the FO is giving mixed singles about a heavy retooling. That said I'd rather steer clear of deals with them because they are so pitching poor. My opinion, just go sign wheeler and pay him what he wants. If Bryant could be had for a decent price i'd certainly listen but i have my doubts. The cubs are gonna want prospects galore if they are doing a heavy retooling.

Heh, that's just it ... in the absence of some actuality to discuss, we're playing some 'what ifs' here. Personally, I like the idea of acquiring Bryant, even if for two years ... depending on the cost, and I would trade Arraez for him, but again, depending on what else would get thrown in. But as I've said earlier, it's doubtful the Twins and Cubs make good trading partners because their priorities are pretty much the same ... pitching ... we both want some.

The Cubs are not looking to clear salary to sign a stud pitcher.  They are looking to trade one or more of their core players while they still have market value before free agency.  They don't want to repeat what the Tigers went through when all their best players left for nothing but draft pick compensation.  And they can't afford to resign everyone coming up for free agency.  One or more of them has to get moved.

Why trade for Bryant if you are looking for a quality 3B. Especially when he could become a FA in just one more year. If they want to move Sano to 1st just sign Mike Moustakas. Could be had for 2 years probably not much more than 25M or so.

Yep. I freaking love Gleeman. My favorite baseball analyst. Seemingly one of the few, if not only, guy out there willing to speak plainly and honestly about the Twins and Twins news. Not afraid to call BS when he sees it.
