The Yankees are so unconcerned with the twins, they decide to throw their closer in a 6 run game in game 1.

Trying to search for positives from this miserable game.....uh, well, we get to play another one tomorrow. That might be a positive. But we'll never beat the Yankees playing like we did tonite. It was just horrible.

Rocco and the front office make the lineup decisions together. It truly was an odd decision not to start Schoop. They likely also agreed when Gibson would come in. That's how modern baseball works.

This offense could absolutely score enough to win these games. The Yankees pitching (and fielding) is just so far superior, it’s not gonna work.

They were both made to endure suffering while others watched and wished someone could go help them down, so...

I'm just in on the thread now, so I haven't read the 79 some previous pages of comments. But, I assume I'm about to beat a dead horse. 

 

This game was horribly managed. Good on Arraez for being willing, but he probably cost the game. Couldn't get to the pop up; couldn't beat out the back end of that DP; didn't cover 2nd on the Encarnacion "2b"; Threw the inning ending DP turn into the dirt. Should not have been in the lineup, especially with Schopp on the bench. Obviously Arraez has meant a lot to the team, but even healthy, he is a one tool player. The one tool is valuable in our lineup, but it's also valuable coming off the bench as a pinch hitter late in a close game.

 

Pulling Berrios was questionable. Pulling Berrios for Littell was abominable. Littell should be pitching with a 6 run deficit, not ever with a tie game. No matter what is going on, your best starting pitcher is better the third time through the lineup than your worst reliever on his first. 

 

Duffey almost bailed him out, at least kept us in the game.

 

Stashak?!?! The other AAAA guy?!? 

 

Maybe Rocco is just playing the long game and getting the young, marginal bullpen guys some playoff experience for when we make our playoff run in a couple seasons. oh, wait, aren't we in the playoffs now?

I don't care what Rocco and the players say. You can't tell me that they aren't thinking about the Twins now currently having the longest postseason losing streak and the Yankees having their number.

eh...I'm sure Rocco's getting data, but I'm also pretty sure lineup decision rest on the manager. I don't think you put blame on Falvine for Arraez starting tonight.

 

And I'd say Gibson would never see the mound if the Twins were tied or ahead, unless he's the last guy left standing in an extra inning game.

It's official, Rocco just announced post game that Dobnak will start game 2.

Rocco is pushing all the wrong buttons tonite. May as well get it out of system and hope for better things tomorrow. It was noble and nearly heroic for Arraez to be ready to go tonite, but if we;re honest, he has not had a good game. And Schoop pinch hitting for him and striking out was also pretty predictable.

 

Ugly game. Pure ugly. don't know how these guys will respond tomorrow. A whole lot of things will have to change quickly but our pitching is clearly problematic.

If the Twins could win one of two in New York, that would be good. And I would rather win the second game anyway.

The pitch recognition was like a 10/10 for the Yankees and about a 3.5 for the twins. Looking at you Rosario and garver. Brutal games for both

I think they believe in a few of them but we’ve seen how some of them struggle when used on back to back days. I know some pitchers around the league have had heroic series where they’re used a ton with success but I feel like that’s more the exception rather than the rule. And honestly, even if Rogers gets 6 of those 15 outs, who gets the other 9? Romo May and Duffey?
