Game Thread: Twins vs White Sox 5:10 PM PST (7:10PM CDT) 8/19/2019

After mailing in the last thread (FYI, trying to FedEx electrons to TD is marginally easier than herding cats. Marginally.)

I decided to put some thought and effort into this game thread series opener. ("game thread series opener" is a trick to increase word count because, nothing says "lots of thought went into the opener" quite like a bunch of words on a screen)

What was interesting about the "mailing it in" start of the game series thread openers was the Twins sweeping Texas,

broom

and, apparently, Tony Diaz switching uniforms so he could show Texas the proper way to run their way out of innings.

Which brings us to today, Twins taking on the White Sox, a team the Twins have handled pretty well this year. Unfortunately, though, I cannot engage in my usual mockery of Sox fielding, due to the Twins have their own problems when it comes to catching the ball. Curse you Twins, for taking some of my best material from me! (Now there is a batting practice comment. There will be points awarded to best riff)

The also-rans get:

And, due to someone pointing out the obvious, we shall toss up some food for thought:

1: New York or Ribeye?
2: Bacon or Ribs?
3: Veronica or Betty?
4: Mashed or Baked?

Speaking of baked:

5: Mel or Russell? (can't forget the ladies!)

Lineups:

6: Play ball!

I waited just so I could get the lineups into the game thread, but the Twins left it really late!

Those were electrons well spent.

Glad to have the Cruz Missiles getting launched again.

I bought milk today. Tried to find one with Byron’s picture on it but no go. Someone somewhere must know where he is.

Let’s make Nova pay for that really good start he had against us in July. Go Twins!

1: New York or Ribeye?  New York.
2: Bacon or Ribs? This is a weird either/or.  I very much enjoy both, but if I can just have one....Ribs
3: Veronica or Betty? Veronica.
4: Mashed or Baked? Loaded baked.

Next 13 games are against the Tigers and White Sox, teams that are actively trying to lose.

I don’t know about your expectations, but I feel it would be a disappointment if we didn’t go at least 9-4 over those 13 games.

1. The Ribeye Yankees? Nope, have to go with New York.

2. Ribs - I like bacon but you can create a woman with ribs. Not that women don't have ribs... You know what I mean... it's in the Bible some place.

3. Both. Just ribbing you.

4. Mashed  - like my lips.

Bacon vs. Ribs was a tough one until I got to No. 4 and realized that I put bacon on my baked potatoes and stir them into my mashed. Guess that means bacon.

Nova's on fire. Only two earned runs allowed in the last 37 innings pitched. Gibby had one of his best outings against the White Sox last month, giving up one run in six innings in an 11-1 win. So, something's gotta give.

I looked up his logs expecting to see the dregs of the league. Included in that stretch are starts against the Twins, Astros and Phillies. Phillies only have an average offense (but they are certainly not a bad offensive team) but Houston and the Twins are top 5 in MLB.
