Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 "Kyle Gibson gave up 5ER in 5IP and that's the best start in this series for either team."LOL Like I kept saying today, people were bashing Gibson and he's the only guy that has come within a country mile of not being terrible. If Baldelli had a bullpen, I doubt he even throws to Gregorius.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 OK, got one back. Now hold 'em and we'll keep chipping away.
jz7233 Provisional Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Schoop has been fairly bad (by Twins lineup standards) against righties, but he just mashes lefties. 3 fastballs in the zone though. He got the right pitch to hit. Happ is a bad pitcher these days.

jtkoupal Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Are they though?Absolutely. Berríos and Odorizzi were All-Stars. Gibson has been solid since the end of 2017. Pineda has shown signs of being back to form, but he has still been plagued by piling pitch counts. Peréz has shown he can do it, especially early in the year. I think Peréz is the odd man out if the Twins bring in another starter, but all 5 of these guys are capable.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 5 ER in 5 IP is pretty terrible imo...Maybe, but everybody else has been worse. Much worse. It's like everyone on this forum has forgotten that the Twins' offense has been even more brutal to the Yankees' pitching staff than the other way around.

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Good day for Odorizzi to forget how to pitch. He is just giving them meat down the middle!
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I think at some point, being the least awful at something stops deserving praiseWe're talking about the pitching staffs for the first and third best teams in the American League. Or does it not count that the Twins have been punching the Yankees' staff in the face for three straight games?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Smeltzer better be ready to go for the 4th
pierre75275 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I cant remember the last time the Twins scored and the pitching staff didnt give up runs the next half inning
jtkoupal Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I would counter that the Twins rotation isn't better than this.I think they are. 2 all stars, a solid #3, and a 4 & 5 that have shown they have good stuff and can be effective. I think they could use another solid starter, but there's no reason these 5 can't be better.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Sit the **** down, Encarnacion. That wasn't even close to a ball.

However, I do think the staff is better than they've pitched right now. They are in a rough patch, much like the lineup was prior to this.
jtkoupal Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Also a friendly reminder that Aaron Hicks was traded for 26 games of 90 plate appearances of John Ryan Murphy, whose OBP was under .200 during that time.
Twodogs Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Guess we are just going to bend over and take this one tonight?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Guess we are just going to bend over and take this one tonight? It's, um, 5-3 in the top of the third. In New York, fans are shouting "JUST STOP ALREADY, TWINS".
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 We're talking about the pitching staffs for the first and third best teams in the American League. Or does it not count that the Twins have been punching the Yankees' staff in the face for three straight games? It counts, but I’m not sure for what if our guys have been every bit as bad if not worse. I’m not going to get excited about a guy pitching to a 9 ERA for the game as if he accomplished anything. So far 3 of our starters have failed to help the team win. The rest is just details
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 So Gregorius can get out. Interesting strategy. Baldelli should keep that in his back pocket for the postseason.

GCTF Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Because I hold grudges, I'll bring up yet again that Cave dived and missed during a game at Kauffman Stadium that I attended last year - the results were worse that time, with a inside-the-park HR. As a consequence he's about my least favorite position player on the team, with consistently poor judgement on anything requiring more than ordinary skill.Exactly how many times did Jake Cave kick your dog?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Eh, at least that pitch wasn't terrible. Kudos to the hitter.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 At least someone finally got Gregorious out.
