Unless I missed something, the pitch seemed fine.

Sometimes you take a hack and roll over on one. It’s hardly news-worthy in a 162 game season.

I'm not a big fan of not swinging at pitches you like.....except when Buxton is on first with no outs....

Take the pitches you like. It’s not as if Max is flailing away out there. He’s hitting well this season and the pitch wasn’t out of the zone from what I could see.

When you have Cave, Adrianza, and Castro batting 6-7-8 you're going to feel that way. Probably the three worst hitters on the team. Very anemic.

The same Cave that had a great rookie season and he's hitting .333 now? I ain't defending Adrianza or Castro's bats, but Cave's bat is pretty solid.

agreed......in general....but in context? I probably take one there, unless it is exactly what I'm guessing/looking for. But, this is a mild nit, not any kind of indictment.

My point is that fans take a little too aggressive approach to seasons that have 550+ plate appearances. Baseball is hard. Really, really hard. Max thought he got the pitch he wanted and swung. It didn’t work out.

 

That happens.

He's almost as old as me, I'm sure he's tired from all that travel and then sitting around.....

 

note: he's not really that old, but it sounds funnier, I think, to say he is.....

note 2: explaining jokes seems bad, I need to keep working on this humor thing.

If you bat behind Buxton, you need to be willing and able to take pitches early in the count when he’s on base. Every at-bat does not call for one generic approach. Is it a rule that he HAS to take a pitch there? No. That’s why I say he must have really liked that pitch.

See my later post. If you watch film of Ted Williams over a season, you’ll find ways to “criticize” his approach.

 

Again, baseball is hard. All but the most elite players fail 65% of the time. Sometimes you see a good pitch and miss it or roll over on it.

 

That’s baseball. Critiquing those kinds of failures makes for a long, long season.
