If Machado does sign with the Yankees who do they move from their middle infield? Gregorius, Torres or Andujar?

IIRC, Gregorius is hurt to start the season; and Andujar as been rumored to be available--I imagine he gets moved sometime after Didi is ready to go.

Yusei Kikuchi to the M’s. Atleast now the Mariners fans will have something to see when they go Safeco Field...

Has anyone seen dollar amounts? I’ve only seen it was a 4-year deal.

Meanwhile, Machado went to Chicago and met with the White Sox. And the White Sox signed his brother-in-law.

There is a feeling on mlbtraderumors that Boras will get the Washington owner to go overboard for Harper.  He has done this before. According to mlbtraderumors last Washington offer was 10 years for way more than $300 mil.

I don't mind. I still think Chicago's rebuild is built on sand and that they are going to stink for the foreseeable future. Stick Machado on a sinking ship tied to a huge deal and maybe he'll make the situation even worse by being a malcontent or get a case of chronic apathy.

I think they project fairly well in a year or two. They will have Machado already and can add a piece or two then. Of course they are as reliant as anyone on prospects coming forth. I would just really, really, really hate to see Machado on a winning White Sox team in 2-3 years. If he can go there, he can come here.

The bottom line is ... he went to Chicago and met with them face to face ... ugh.

I can't imagine he'll go there and I expect World Peace before the White Sox ever win again. I have a hard time believing Reinsdorf will spent that kind of money, or any money for that matter. The Pohlads are exemplary owners compared to him.

I’m not sure I agree with you on Reinsdorf, but I don’t completely disagree either. The White Sox have been willing, imo, to pull the trigger in a few things when they should have. It just remains to be seen if that worked. But the bottom line is, whether or not Machado signs there, he was invited there and he went. There is interest, strong interest, from them. The Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs seem not to be interested ... although that could just be appearances so the price doesn’t skyrocket ... but, if one of those 3 aren’t in on him and don’t sign him ... who else will? If the ChiSox get him, I think it’s a game changer for them, and I will ‘aaaaargh!’ every time I see him in that uniform facing us.

For what it's worth, the White Sox probably don't even have to ask Reinsdorf about money right now. They are looking at a ~$71 mil payroll for 2019 at the moment, with only Tim Anderson guaranteed money after 2019. They could sign Machado or Harper to a mega-deal and still be under the median MLB payroll, and have no trouble remaining there for the foreseeable future:

Obviously, they also still project as only a 70-win team for 2019, so it's not clear that Machado or Harper alone would change their fortunes too much. Still a lot of holes in the lineup and all over the pitching staff. I'm not particularly worried about them.

And of course, if one thinks a Machado or Harper mega-deal may be of questionable value long-term, it's tempting to want the White Sox to sign one and be tied to it for the next 10 years...

I'm just not a fan of their prospects outside of Eloy Jimenez and one guy isn't going to save the team. Their young bats all strikeout too much to succeed and by contrast their entire young rotation struggles to miss bats. They have some strikeout guys in the pipeline but every one of them has significant control issues, which shouldn't be a surprise considering their MLB staff is easily the worst at issuing free passes; I'd guess it's systematic. This team just looks very poorly built; I don't think you can prevent runs if every pitcher has control issues and I don't think you will score many if every batter's greatest weakness is striking out.

But last report I saw said the White Sox offer to Machado was closer to $200M than it was to $300M, so that's probably not happening.

All fair. And I’m likely ‘worrying’ about nothing, but I just can’t so easily discount then, because it’s baseball and one never knows. But it does make me pause when they at least are trying to play. I guess it’s better to not pretend if you aren’t serious, but I’d still like it if the Twins at least entertained the idea. It annoys me to hear that the White Sox are showing interest when we aren’t.

We came in 2nd on Darvish last off-season and had a number of members saying we didn't even try. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Theo is trying to find money to take a run at Harper. At some point in time, Darvish may become quite reasonable. I'm guessing next off-season.

Brewers acquired RHP Adam Hill, RHP Bobby Wahl, and IF Felix Valerio in exchange for OF Keon Broxton.

The Mets are sure making a ton of moves this offseason!

Three more since that trade even this weekend...signed Hector Santiago, who is a solid piece for a pitching staff, traded for J.D. Davis, and traded away Kevin Plawecki to the Indians.

Replacement level pitchers are solid additions?

The Mets have made 3 trades in the last 2 days... not huge ones, but the new GM has been providing some headlines for a boring offseason.

Depends on how they're used. Santiago in a long-relief, spot-starter sort of role is a "solid" addition.

Last year as a reliever, he tossed 74 1/3 innings over 43 appearances, with a 3.87 ERA and 10.4 K/9. Nothing earth-shattering, but for a million dollars as a long relief type, that's a solid pickup.
