Danchat Verified Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 I don't think the front office gets enough credit for seeing what they had in Romero and jumping him ahead of several other guys who easily could have been called up and it would have been a legitimate decision.Yeah, I thought Gonsalves would be up before Romero, but clearly after Romero was incredibly good in Spring Training and continued that performance at AAA, they knew he was next up. It's also pretty crazy that we have Gonsalves, Littell, and Slegers waiting in the wings. That's some solid depth in the rotation that we haven't had since... well, a time before I followed the Twins. DocBauer and glunn 2

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Was curious about something, and will probably post this in another thread for those who don't read GT, or at least not tonight, but spent WAY too much time researching a curiosity. There is a lot more to calling a good game and being a good catcher than a SSS. And a lot more than a SSS for a well pitched game. (Duh!) But for fun I took a look at games played since the start of the season in which the Twins pitched a shutout or a 1 run game. I apologize for not knowing the day Castro went on the DL. And these results also don't fully compliment said catchers true abilities. (Second Duh!). But I found this interesting.Beginning April 1st, the Twins have played 12 games that were a shutout or a 1 run allowed game. They are 11-1 in those games. Wilson bas caught 2 of those games in his brief time. Castro caught 3 of those games. Garver has caught 7.Just saying.Remember no math! DocBauer and Riverbrian 2

And they could seamlessly switch Fernando R. with the other Fernando R...Hey, after a rough two weeks, Rodney has been very good. And he was let down by his defense pretty consistently during those bad two weeks. He was also pretty bad himself but the defense cost him at least one game, possibly two. DocBauer and Riverbrian 2

If I see a catcher's glove move back to the plate on a borderline pitch, it confirms to me that it missed. I'm looking at the ball, not how the catcher 'presents it' to me.There was an article in which Jason Castro broke down how he went about pitch framing. He said he tried to position his body and glove to give the umpire the best view of the ball he could, along with very careful placement of the glove. Bottom line: Moving the glove is for amateurs and true "pitch framing" is incredibly subtle. The way Mr. Castro broke it down made a lot of sense. ashbury, DocBauer, glunn and 1 other 4

We have very accurate ball tracking technology. It's more accurate than the umpires. Some catchers, year in and year out, get more strikes called for their pitchers. Others are the opposite. glunn, ashbury and Riverbrian 3
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Honest question...brought about by commentary and how natural Romero looks...who actually has the better pure stuff, even in SSS? Is it Romero? Or perhaps a more "relaxed" Berrios who is an intense competitor? glunn 1
