Thank you for this. Long-time lurker here.  Last game thread I followed, I kept hearing Rodney Dangerfield's voice, "Tough crowd, tough crowd."  I wasn't going to abandon the threads, but man I wasn't enjoying them as much.  Started reading through this thread and it made me happy.  Like reading a Kevin Kling story.

Good news: Twins play tonight! Great news even when you consider there was no game yesterday.

 

Bad news: They are playing a late west coast game.

 

Even better news: (for all of our lovely readers) 10 hour+ day today. So with working tomorrow morning, the doxies, (speaking of dogs), and I will probably be in bed before the game is done and no-one will be subjugated to a full 3 hours of my ramblings.

No but it took a little while to shake myself back to normal. 

 

I was still in serious mode when my son stopped by with a knock knock joke.

Me: Just come on in... we love you... you don't have to knock.

My wife was in laundry room and didn't know he had stopped by but she heard someone come in and didn't know who. So she shouted "WHO's THERE".from a distance. 

 

My Son than replied by shouting his name to my wife "Aaron". 

 

That is when it dawned on me that my son was doing a knock knock joke. 

 

So I replied... Aaron Who? 

 

He must have forgot the punchline because he had nothing.

The Twins need to take 2 in Seattle. It won't be easy. The Mariner's are a good team and the Twins have had trouble with them in years past, especially in Seattle. 

 

The Mariners are favored in every game, per FiveThirtyEight. (61% Friday, 54% Saturday, 53% Sunday)

 

Probability of a Twins Sweep, 8.4%

Probability of a Mariners Sweep, 17.5%

 

The Mariners are in the Driver's Seat for the 2nd Wild Card at the moment. Gotta take at least 2 here.

 

I'm hoping for an amazing Romero performance tonight because I'm fearful of an amazing Paxton performance tonight.

Was curious about something, and will probably post this in another thread for those who don't read GT, or at least not tonight, but spent WAY too much time researching a curiosity.

 

There is a lot more to calling a good game and being a good catcher than a SSS. And a lot more than a SSS for a well pitched game. (Duh!) But for fun I took a look at games played since the start of the season in which the Twins pitched a shutout or a 1 run game. I apologize for not knowing the day Castro went on the DL. And these results also don't fully compliment said catchers true abilities. (Second Duh!). But I found this interesting.

 

Beginning April 1st, the Twins have played 12 games that were a shutout or a 1 run allowed game. They are 11-1 in those games. Wilson bas caught 2 of those games in his brief time. Castro caught 3 of those games. Garver has caught 7.

I think  CERA should be given more consideration than it does and I think your research could lead to saying something but it does seem like the CERA results have a little variance from year to year. 

 

But... Mitch Garver catching 7 does indicate that he didn't do too much damage in those 7 games.

No worries, it's something I noticed awhile back as well... but I've watched Garver catch. Maybe he calls an amazing game but he is not a good defensive catcher overall. I hadn't even looked up his framing stats until about 20 minutes ago but they confirmed exactly what I see from him behind the plate: lots of stabbing at the ball, loads of movement, and many missed called strikes.

 

Maybe his offense carries the day as a poor man's Mike Piazza but he's going to need to hit a lot to make up for his defensive deficiencies.

Just saying, a young catcher with a good arm and potential bat with some warts might deserve the chance to be the #1 catcher at this time to develop, and might not be as poor behind the plate as some feel he is.
